Agree Pam, if I can make a few affiliate bucks with the little traffic I get they should do a heck of a lot better...

I wish all lap dogs* had $1.3 million.

*lap dog

As everybody as indicated above. There are a number of reasons why
he/she has not put up a fully functional site.

When, a land developer buys a vacant prime parcel of land. He doesn't immediately
put up a building to begin using the property. He plans the maximum potential
for the property. He may hire designers. Or, may go shopping for some
major, long term tenants. However, he might put a temp./short-term tenant there like
a christmas tree stand, etc.

This guy might be doing the same thing.

As for putting up a $ 1.95 template., that would be stupid. Why expose yourself to a
TM lawsuit using a pirated template. Expecially, on a high profile domain.

If I had this much invested. I would thoroughly but cautiously plan the maximum potential for the domain.

Unless there is verifiable 3 party audit on the price of a domain sold, you can essentially claim anything you want since there is no way to prove otherwise.

He could be testing the traffic like a poll.
There's 3 options :

Men only Women Gay

It could take 5 years before its a mainstream site,
I would use internet resources to have an established
community before a media campaign.

If there was no sale, why would Rick have changed his existing profitable affiliate links and point it at a different site?

You might not like Rick, but he is not an idiot. He wouldn't stop making money on the site just to impress some message board conspiracy theorists.

Looking at the site doesn't prove that the name sale was a fraud. It may or may not have been. Hell, business.com was a legit sale and they had a crap site.

Put me on the side of the people who think that it was legit. The name was clearly worth that much, if not more, so it's not unbelievable. Sure, there have been fraud cases in which the name was clearly not worth that much and they were playing with funny money, like with beauty.cc, but men.com is a top tier one word dictionary .com name, probably in the top ten or top twenty of best possible names.

Not everyone who makes a sizeable purchase is immediately prepared to have it developed properly. Just because you purchase a domain name doesn't somehow make you a web development guru. Oh, well.

Well said izopod. I also remember reading in Duke's article, it really does'nt matter what the website itself looks like. He does'nt want anyone to stay at the site very long anyway. The quicker someone clicks on an affiliate link at his site the faster he makes money. It makes sense to have premium traffic domains no matter what the site itself looks like. It keeps everyone click'n.......................

Does he need to be a member here? This guy is pretty darn successful and I can understand why people take shots at him. Most people want to be number one, and until he falls from the ranks, do not expect any different type of behavior from people.

Who says he's number one other than him?

I'd say he is a successful domainer but I certainly wouldnt put him in the top 5 based on what I know and maybe not even in the top 10.

Anyway the site doesn't even resolve LOL. Great investment!

Anyone who refers to himself in the third person is a legend in his own mind.

That short lived Google bashing candy.com site was classic. :)
