I am looking for someone to spend time with my boys and teach them the ropes of the industry.

Probably would be 1 hour a night via MSN messenger.

Would have to be EST anywhere between 6 and 9 PM, flexible schedule.

You will be paid an agreed upon price per hour.

My preference is that its one of those domainers that i have seen rise through the ranks over the last few years.

PM me if interested, and please post here PM sent.

For those of you wondering why I am doing it this way, have you ever tried taking driving lessons with your parent? I want them to get the basic knowledge before I take over.

It's time they got off Runescape and got into the real world.

How old are the kids?

Also, if they're good at RuneScape then they should hop over to WoW or EQ2 and make in-game money to sell for real life money. :)
(Or is there a market for RuneScape money and characters?)

Edit: Also how basic? Do they know their way around a registrar and parking comapny? Do they understand the basics of development (can they make basic pages?). What tools would they have access to? DMT? CS3?

Suggestion:

A female mentor would be better than a male as they have the patience and boys seem to have the tendency to listen and pay more attention to female teacher.

I think in this, they wll be focused.

The person will just have to deal with the I know that, I know that atitude.

When they don't know much yet. ;)

They will need to know everything from registration to drops to finding names to communicating.

Basically all newbie stuff.

I had them read the Namenewbie stuff and Ron's site.

I registered them but am too smart to kick them out of the nest just yet.

First I want them to at least walk, let alone fly. ;)

Hi

If I were one of your siblings, I wouldn't want anyone but my Dad to show me the ropes in this biz! :)

Also, I think you should be very cautious about who you choose to give access to your children.

Your kids will have the opportunity to start in a different position that many who came in on their own and built their way up.

Do you want them to learn the hard way?

What type of budget will they have?

Will you oversee/monitor and approve their purchases beforehand?

Do you have a preferred registrar for them to use? :)

Are you against them regging typo's and tm's? :)

Do they currently own any domains now and if so what are they doing with them?

What direction do you want them to go vs what direction they want to go?

Do they have any development skills?

Do they know about adsense and all the different ppc services and affiliate programs.

Do the know about sending and receiving payments via escrow, paypal, moneybookers, western union including the benefits and pitfalls of each...can they do wire-transfers?

just some things I think a mentor should know or ask if you decide to go that way

Just a thought DCG - If they start digging into expired domain lists, they may see some very explicit domains. Be sure you are comfortable with this. If they start registering them, then I'd really worry ;)

biggedon,

I think what Adam is looking for is someone to teach them the basics of how everything works. No one should be teaching them anything that is purely based on opinion. I think that's the most important thing when you are teaching kids. Everything has to be unbias.

Of course, i think what Adam wants is to teach them the basics...once you do that...the kids on their own will ask the tougher questions to him. I think that's the whole idea...it's not easy for a father to teach everything to their kids. There's a reason they go to school ;)

If you want them to learn the hard way, dont approve/disapprove their purchases unless its over a certain amount of money. When actual money is at stake, thats learning the hard way.

One of the reasons to get someone to help them is to avoid some of the tough lessons. After all they will have access to me all night.

It's just time I got them interested in something they will enjoy and will need to understand later in life.

Well, I don't feel comfortable charging them but if they want, they can PM me some questions and I can answer them to the best of my ability (and if I don't know the answer, I'll say I don't know).

Second generation domainers, interesting concept and thought.

Here is a free rule:

Pay attention to places that either set trends or closely watch them and look for good keyword combinations. ;)
