I wouldn't call doubling the minimum bid a "feature"! Yes, inexpensive drops are a thing of the past now. That 8.75 opening bid was one of the great values in the business but it's out the window now.

I wonder if the new site will continue to allow invisible people to take domains when you have the high bid?

In their effort to wring more money out of people they have come up with the most complicated auction scenario I've ever seen. I've read it 3 times and still don't understand it! So now we are down to GoDaddy and Snap as low cost options.

Ok, so I guess it's kind of like Pool now, where you can bid AFTER
deletion. Now, do you know if they caught the name if you're
bidding after deletion?

This is confusing.....

All existing NameWinner customers are grandfathered in at the old $8.75 pricing.

looks like snapcheck will have to change his scripts again, wonder
if the decision to change to look and feel has anything to do
with him bombing the hell out of NW with queries.

Bidding after the drop only occurs if
1. bidding activity between 9:45 and 10:00, forcing a 15 minute extension

and

2. there bidding activity between 10:10 and 10:15 of the extended bidding period

and

3. NameWinner grabs the domain

That will force a private auction that occurs after the drop where the winner is guaranteed to get the domain.

...and no bid sniping.

You must attempt a bid on a domain to see the current bid.

I gotta be honest with you, the only way to win now is to snipe.

Otherwise you're looking at paying 3x the value of the domain.

Sure this is good for NW, but I'm 100% sure you'll see a drop
in customers for this.

Without sniping, I wouldn't have any of the names I've got
now.

Sorry to say this, but I'll have to take my sniping and my
business to the only place that still allows it, Pool.

We implemented the system to make things more fair. We realize some customers like to try to game the system to their advantage. This new auction model will hopefully establish the true value of a domain, not the value based on how late in the auction someone can post a large proxy bid.

Yes, but what if one shoe is untied and it's a full moon? :-D

Just kidding on that point. It will take some getting used to obviously. On the grandfathering in old customers at $8.75 - that is a very smart move and should help retain some loyalty among current users. Now, if you can just get rid of those many instances where the people listed as the high bidder on your system did not get the domains you'll be firing on all cylinders!

NameWinner Guy,

Maybe it will become clear tomorrow. But, I am now totally confused on how to bid at NW.

What happened to simplicity?

We already explained this issue. Your outbid list shows all domains you have been outbid on. The new domain list will be more obvious about being outbid on a domain.

Yes, we understand this is more complicated. We created it!

The new domain list will easily step you through the auction process. You will be able to see when and auction closes, gets extended, or goes to private auction.

Being the high bidder or getting outbid in much much more visible.

Greed to make more money.

:mod comments:
Sorry Andrew, but I felt this was an unproductive comment, since it was unrelated to this thread. If you do not agree, please send me a PM, and we can discuss your view.

I would assume NW wants to maximize their profit.

But, are they doing this now to make the most they can before WLS happens?

Or, they figure WLS is not going to happen?
