Trying to transfer a bunch of names out of RGNames, a NameWinner registrar. The confirmation emails are all in Korean. There are two buttons on the bottom of the message. I know one is "accept" and the other is "deny" (or something comparable). WHICH IS WHICH? PLEASE HELP!!

From what I remember, it's the left hand one.

We just had a problem with RG NAMES last week as they failed to approve transfers out - Tried the transfers 3 times in the past few weeks and then wrote them, copied it to Internic (Icann) and they approved the transfers the same day. Best of luck with these folks as it is a tough process to transfer them away.

I'm lucky in that I had two names with them and the transfer process went fairly smoothly once I'd figured out the correct box to click. It goes back to the same old argument that catchers who use these foreign entities should make it alot easier to at least get access to the names you have won. I don't think that setting up an english language version of their site would be beyond the realms of technology for them, but maybe they're making so much that they don't care. My argument would be that if they are making so much that's why they SHOULD care.

Same problem here Steve. They just rejected a transfer request for the third time today. I am not even getting emails from them with the option to OK a transfer. I logged in to double check my account and they do have the correct email address. I am sure, like so many other lame registrars, they don't want to let them go. I am SO tired of this registrar behaviour. Just wrote them and copied ICANN as you suggested. Hope it works!

Still no luck with AlohaNic who is also the absolute bottom of the barrel. After forcing Pool and I to both FAX themn all sorts of documents (for a $15 name) they still, after four months (!) have not transferred the domain from Pool to me. I expect the whole year to elapse without me getting control of the domain I paid for. Also same situation at PSI Japan. Never got two domains I paid for and they ignore all email. It's unbelievable. Obviously I have stopped buying anything from the venues using these registrars. I don't like having my money considered to be a donation with no need to deliver what I paid for.

Duke - I just checked with Heather in our Domains Dept. and she said this is the address for the folks that wrote her back which DVDDRIP posted above -
Try [email protected]. He/she speaks english.
Maybe that will work - I understand your frustration as we are dealing with one of these rogue registrars almost every day of recent - Best of luck - Steve

Well I am shocked! I sent the email to RGNames yesterday and copied it to the ICANN address above. After months of trying to get my domain out of there and them continually rejecting it - it was approved within hours!! And they didn't even send me an email to confirm transfer approval! Maybe they have already been put on notice by ICANN for their continually poor service. In any case it got them to pay attention and thank God I no longer have any names there. I will now try the same thing at Alohanic and PSI Japan who both have domains I paid for months ago and won't even provide login info. By all means people, start using that ICANN complaint address to report these lousy registrars. They are a blight on the business. Thanks again Steve - for letting us know this worked for you.

Sounds great Duke!!! Glad they finally responded. Maybe this Icann heat helps? I heard this AM that we have 181 inbound domain transfers that are all on their 3rd. attempt at various registrars. That is amazing - I would hop that Icann starts to pay attention to this problem. Glad it worked Duke - Steve

Steve I now pretty much have no doubt that letting a lot of these lousy registrars know you are copying the complaint to ICANN will do the trick. For the last four months I have been trying to get login info for a domain at AlohaNic.com, one of the sorriest outfits I have ever run across. They required me to FAX a boatload of documents including my passport! They even made THEIR partner, Pool, FAX them their articles of incorporation!! Talk about holding a domain hostage! Still despite all of that - they got the faxes over 3 weeks ago - they did nothing.

So yesterday I sent them still another email and copied it to the ICANN address in this thread and made sure they knew ICANN was getting the complaint which fingered them as one of the worst offenders in the business. They IMMEDIATELY transferred the domain to Namescout (Pool) and now I just need Pool to send my login info (which has never been a problem as long as it is at their own registrar). After all of this there are still two domains I bought 4 months ago (both at PSI Japan) that I can not get login info for or even a response out of the registrar. So today, they get the ICANN email. Will be interesting to see if it works with them too.

OK Duke!!! That is super news - Wish we all had a better method to report bad registrars but maybe the cc to Internic lights them up a bit? Glad it worked - Also glad to hear you are OK after this last storm. Major wind, water and floods all around the T Bay area - Hope you and yours are fine - Steve

We came through fine and since you are here I guess you did too! You're closer to the coast than me though and they had a lot of heavy weather over there. Still no big problems for you?

All right - I'm 3 for 3! Never got a response form PSI-Japan in four months. Sent them the email yesterday, making a point that they knew it was being copied to ICANN as a formal complaint. Heard from them immediately! They said they never got the previous email though I sent the latest note (with the ICANN complaint) from the same address as all of the others. Turns out they have a US representative and contacted him and had him contact me right away. He was in transit back to his office in Nevada but told me to call him in the morning to try to get this straightened out. Don't have the names yet but it is the first step in the right direction with PSI-Japan. SO by all means people - if you keep getting jerked around by these registrars, use that ICANN address earlier in this thread and copy your complaint letters to the registrar to ICANN. With a new rule book going into effect in November, maybe ICANN, who has come under a lot of heat for not clamping down on bad registrars, has finally warned registrars to start shaping up.

OK guys don't say I don't do anything for you.

Ron this would make some ideal info for an issue of dnjournal

If the registrars are giving you ***** here is the solution and NEW RULES effective July/13/04 and an OFFICIAL COMPLAINT PROCESS :-)

****************************************************

Dear Dot Partner,

Advisory: Inter-Registrar Transfers: Implementation Requirements

ICANN announces implementation of new policy rules for transfer of domain names between registrars

July 12, 2004: ICANN is pleased to announce the adoption of The Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy. The new transfer policy will provide for a smooth transition of a domain name from one registrar to another when such a change is requested by the domain name holder. As a result this new policy will:

* Provide benefit to registrants in that they can more freely move their domain name from one registrar to another if they so desire, and further
* Encourage competition in the DNS among registrars.

Guidelines for using the new policy can be found here -> http://icann.org/transfers/index.html.

*************************************************************

Good reading if you're having trouble transferring names. The BS some of the registrars try should end now that you can actually complain to someone.

Thanks for the info Gordon. I had seen that. Actually July 12 was the day they announced. They're not going to implement it until Nov. 12. Still it is a not of sun peeking through the clouds! As we get closer to implementation I will plan on doing something with it.

Just spent the afternoon buying another round of hurricane supplies! Hope this one slips by us Steve - Ivan looks nasty. I talked to the PSI U.S. rep this morning - Bob Connelly - very nice guy based in Henderson NV. He detailed everything that has happened (a comedy of errors) but promises to get it fixed of for me by the end of the week. He also told me ICANN attorney Dan Halloran contacted him about my complaint - so it definitely looks like ICANN is acting on those emails - I am VERY happy to hear that.
