So here is my story

I agreed a deal to buy -

DataPros.com

And I told 3 of my so called closest friends about it, two of them even asked me how much I was buying it for, the seller has just told me that he has received another offer today through sedo this morning, how funny since I told my so called 3 friends I am doing the deal today.

So I have decided to let the cat out of the bag so other potential buyers can contact the owner and make a bid, let the wars begin.

I will not disclose who I told about the domain but it is the last time I trust a domainer, my own fault for thinking I had friends and being daft to trust people that I don't really know.

The domain is going really cheap but I made an offer that only I could afford.

This was part of the sellers email to me a couple of hours ago -

"I also want to give you a heads up on today's fresh development - it would appear like I'm making it up, but I suspect it might come from someone with information that you are in the process of acquiring datapros.com.
I received an unsolicited offer of $xxxx for the domain & acquisition to be made through sedo.com. I'm not sure how genuine it is, & this hasn't happened to me before - just letting you know as you might have unknowingly triggered this out-of-blue-too-coincidental offer somehow.
"

Has anyone else experienced this?

Bummer. Sorry to hear about that. That is a nice one.

Unfortunately, discretion is a tough-learned lesson in business.

I am so gutted.

It is a big lesson learnt, I love this domain so much too!

I don't suppose you had anything more than an informal agreement? Maybe you could appeal to the seller's sense of fairness, or renegotiate, or borrow some money?

The domain isn't parked nor at Sedo's database, so what really has happened? And it'd be for the best to disclose who were the untrustworthy "pals".

I suspect the owner has lots of more offers on the table after this post, I do not have the funds to play with the big boys!

I can sniff out great domains at low prices, this will not brake me, I've watched Rocky too many times and I will never give up!

Brother, the big boys aren't paying for datapros.com. Sorry to burst your bubble.

As I read this, it sounds more like the seller was hustling you for a higher bid -
I received an unsolicited offer of $xxxx for the domain & acquisition to be made through sedo.com.
Doesn't sound like he has that higher bid, just that one 'may' be offered at sedo. So it may not be someone you shared the info with. Just some thoughts.

maybe he was hustling you as others have suggested
however there are a fair few potential enduser buyers

Sounds like a shakedown, classic head fake, he doesn't look to own a big portfolio, just trying to squeeze more money out of you.

It looks like the current owner hand regged this back in 1997 and he had a developed business on it for a few years. Are you sure he is a domainer?

Guys,

Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.

I do believe he was telling the truth, for over 2 weeks he has held the domain for me .

He told me what he was willing to accept and I agreed on the price.

Lets see if it does sell in the next few weeks, I have a feeling the new owner will have privacy though.

Just had an update from the seller, he partly wrote -

"There seems to be a flurry of interested parties from everywhere suddenly & I'm not sure what the domain will fetch in the end."

Lol, I bet it is everyone from this forum who is saying the domain is rubbish

I wouldn't even bid on that domain if it was here, in the $1 auction forum.

Say no more!

I just can't stop smiling because the person who went behind my back didn't think I could do this, a Bidding Tsunami , brilliant!
