My 2 cents:

Yeah, .com is king.

cc tld's make sense if the country's own market is strong enough (.de, .co.uk)

interesting discussion. I got into traffic domains only recently and I found it's a lot easier for me to make money with cctld than with .com
 
Nice article and makes sense, the fact that all strong one and two word combinations for .com are gone and command high prices, whereas country code domains may still be available for the same word(s), or can be purchased for much less. If .com isn't available people and businesses have to go to the next best extension, it only makes sense. In Canada for example, many businesses advertise in .ca, including US places like Disneyland and SeaWorld, and most major product brands advertise in .ca here.
