thanks Andy,
I should have asked you, but I did not want to bother. However, I think that the value is not so far from what I paid.
The answers here are pretty clear, I've got no chance to interest any reseller in DNF or other similar forums. But the growing part of the domain market is Germany, France and other European countries. And I can assure you that hyphens do not bother that much Germans (they have very long words and they are used to separate them with hyphens) nor Frenchs (the hyphen is very much used and it is a mistake if you forget it).
We've got a few French marketplaces for domains, where you have more teenagers than real domainers. Most often, the value of the domains with hyphen is the same as domain without.

In a French (and maybe German) perspective:
- New york City is an incredible name.
- the hyphens are not shocking as the correct spellling of New York in French is New-York. And in this case, it's better to have two hyphens rather than one.
- .net is one of the best extensions

So, this is a rare & valuable domain, at least from a French perspective.
Does anybody agree on that? And can reassure me. I did not throw 1k away, did I?

Well the deal is done. Better to think about your next deal and doing it right. Ask some of the veterans around here before you buy again, you don't have to tell them the name, just give them an idea of what your thinking of buying.

Thanks for this purchase David
Sorry that some people here don’t like the name.
I totally agree with your analyze.
Here at DNF many people don’t like hyphens, but SEO like them.
I liked this name, and I bought it, you did so…others will do it.
If you find the final user, I am sure you can do a lot of money with it

A bientôt

while I dont think its worth 1k..I think you are right in your view that hyphenated names are going to increase in value, over the last couple of years I picked up many highly generic hyphenated names, and for a $5 investment thats a risk I am willing to take, so I would stick with your strategy, but rather look for unregged ones or dropping ones and stick with the .com

Hi David,

I don't see any value as a stand-alone domain. Double hyphenated domains aren't appreciated by domainers but search engines do, i think this one should be developed.

Best of luck with the name :)

so far the seller is the only person really showing any love for the name...kinda makes you wonder why he sold it.

I usually don't sell my best names... anyway my point is that it's not that great of a name and you know it. Now if you don't know it, well that's another story.
