A couple of things to consider.

First, you can not park it as it is a TM issue with most parking companies. A German company owns the international TM on Olympics, Olympiad, and just about any variation thereof you can think of. If any of those words appear in the name, in time it will get blacklisted.

Secondly, because of this you may run into some issues with TM in general. All of this comes from the IOC and international courts coming down hard after the announcement of Salt Lake City getting the winter games several years back. Turns out the city itself and the IOC could not even register their own name with all the cybersquatters. If memory serves me correctly, more than 3000 domain names were taken from the registrants and turned over to the IOC. This was one of the first major instances I was aware of regarding so many rushing to register a newsworthy event.

I wish you luck but urge caution regarding too much money, effort, and time in case they come-a-calllin.

For these reasons, a worthwhile appraisal is hard to give should you lose the domain or have to surrender it.

Hmm, well I hope I don't run into any TM issues.
I'll probably just set up a simple wordpress blog and post reports on the Olympics etc....thanks for your post, very helpful. :)

It is assured that the olympic guys will claim trade mark violation on any words that relate to Olympics including olympics, games(name of city), games and the year. They are quite ruthless
I had the name gamesvancouver2010 on my store on ebay and they (olympic watch dog) had it removed. They really seem to have a long arm in finding these TM violations.

If I can find the site of these watchdogs again i will post it here.

I wold advise not to spend much on the name.

Just received an email for one of me domains getting booted off sedo:

2012LONDONSUMMERGAMES.CO.UK

Looks like they are digging for anything that has a year coinciding with an Olympic event (don't forget the Winter Olympics) and a corresponding city.

I think all those people that regged perspective Chicago names may be in for a surprise.

Keep clear of any domains to do with the Olympics IMHO....

I've lost many olympic related domains which I've had to give up. Some company (I think its called Demy or Demsy but I can't remember now) in Edinburgh, UK which looks after the legal matters/Trademarks for the Olympic Guys...These people do not mess around, so be aware.

I've learnt the hard way :disappointed:

That's why I would appraise this at $0 max - sorry !

This guy knows what he's talkin!

I recently recieved a complaint for OlympicGold. I talked with one of the lead US attorney's from the Olympic committee and she said that efforts to stop TM violations have drastically increased. In fact, she told me that if I owned more than ten Olympic TM domains, handing them over wouldn't be enough to avoid legal action. She explained a great deal more to justify this based off of past experiences. She was serious.

Bottom line, if you register a TM domain, make sure that it is far away from anything to do with the Olympics.

Just for information. This is the company that had my name removed from ebay. www.sgbdc.com.

Oh well it was a good try but you know the lawyers creed. "you are innocent until proven broke"

take care
