I disagree with the posts regarding persistent.me not making sense, but I do agree with biggedon's point regarding value in development.
.me is interesting and I think got a huge conceptual push from Apple's blessing of "me" when it bought me.com, but if you are going.me, then you better have developed something there or you may end up saying silly .me
I think that any alternate TLD sites really can only get adopted by purpose, unlike the classic international tlds like .com, .net and .org where an established TLD brand is arguably more important to most because they are already well branded in people's minds.
So, go be a persistant.me and develop it into something special on the web.
