Yep, we all have quirky ideas at times. Best to cut your losses! One of my biggest mistakes was to get involved with .cc .ws .bz etc. Having seen the error of my ways, I have now dropped the lot! With some of these extensions the biggest problem is the cost of renewal. At least with main gTLDs the costs are reasonable, so you can afford to humour yourself for a bit.

If you want to go for ccTLDs, India and China are clearly the most likely winners, because of their populations and rate of economic growth, but don't get sucked in to the trap of thinking that English is going dominate these markets, it won't. You may get away with Acronyms and a few Internationally Ubiquitous terms, but after that you need to be in the local venacular. It is possible that transliterations will work, but my personal belief is that it will be Local Character IDN that come to dominate these markets.

Well I have recently picked up 300€ each for thebeehive.net and thecollective.net so I wouldn't necessarily close the book on these yet. The extension synergy has got to be worth something and dot net are now moving well, well at least moving.

Maybe, but in percentage terms it is still pretty small, no more than 5% of the population at most, and whilst they may speak it, it does not mean that it is their preferred medium of communication.

It is early days for India, but basically we have gone the IDN route and registered domains in local characters, but after seeing Tamilringtones.com go at Snapnames for $8600, I have to say I indulged in Marathiringtones.com, urduringtones.com, kannadaringtones.com and gujaratiringtones.com. Impetuous perhaps, but he who dares wins!
