Use BitcoinAverage.com for a more accurate view of Bitcoin prices (currently $630). MtGox is not representative anymore and its prices reflect the market's perception that it will go bankrupt.

In most any market a drop of 30-40% is absolutely horrific, we are talking about a lot of money here that people are potentially losing in these swings. Sure some people buy when it's low but many spend while it's high and ultimately this only hurts the longevity of this currency/market. I see the FED cracking down on it and US infrastructure doing their best to disable it in the coming years honestly. Good luck.

Bitcoin as an investment is highly speculative and risky. Bitcoin as a frictionless payment gateway is where it really appeals to everyday consumers and merchants, and where exchange rates are meaningless. The points you raise have been discussed ad nauseum in the Bitcoin community over the years and all it takes is a 15min research to find out US is already on the way of regulating it, not cracking it down.

Is it going to sink all the way? Probably not. Is it going halfway underwater? More likely than not.

Right now certainly would be a good time to sell your domain name if you have interested buyers, not sure I would take BTC as a payment type on this one though! Like I said, good luck.

Definitely explains this one. I'd sell, dogecoins aren't a viable alternative to bitcoin. They'll eventually die off.

Some governments may outlaw it and you ought to take into consideration just who exactly will accept bitcoins when all's said and done.
It may be a success with people moving money all over the world but it may not be accepted by as method of payments by many companies.

It is relatively new and very few understand or can complete the process of obtaining BTC. And you are right. Anything the government (any government) does not understand or control, they typically outlaw.

Its a lot like pot...pot remained illegal for decades until a couple of states showed how it could be regulated and (most importantly) taxed. As it currently stands, one has to show the government the benefits of the product and then let some politician claim the idea was his/hers.

I also want to go back to this MtGox thing mentioned. This is not to be merely overlooked in the discussion as this was at one time the largest exchange is it is now on the verge of bankruptcy. they had to stop withdrawals.

Not unlike any other "run on the bank" when the banks are failing.

Seems to me the discussion is on a name and what makes (or detracts) from its perceived value.

If a name (or product) is faltering then that certainly relates to its perceived value.

This is a very good discussion, imo. Certainly the bit coin market exists. And having an exact match name is valuable.

But because it is an actual market in play, how does that affect the name? If there is a decline in the actual market, does the domain name suffer from an identity crisis as well? Keep in mind that a domain name is virtual goods and bit coin is virtual goods. The issue here (as we as domainers know all too well) is how are these virtual goods treated and accepted by others? Can anyone outside the bit coin market even fathom how it is possible that digital currency (non tangible goods) can even be vaguely as valuable as a tangible hard currency (yen, euro, pound, dollar) or even near the value of gold and silver?

I would say high $xxxx to low-mid $xx,xxx in the current market - a very speculative and volatile industry. I'm an early adopter (bleeding edge) when it comes to tech and have a pretty good career in the field over the last 25 years... but bitcoin is yet to be understood by me (and many seasoned IT colleagues) so it's far from stable as a milieu.

Good name though. I would say sell to a good ($) end-user or prep yourself for a roller coaster risk ride over the next few months and possibly years.
