When I saw Raven.com - a top name - being sold on Sedo for a mere $3,500 I was 100% certain there is something fishy about that sale.

Sure enough, there is a thread on DomainState.com about it, where it is confirmed that Raven.com was stolen from its legitimate owner!

Wondering how this story will end, since the owner is a non-technical minded widow of the real owner who has passed away :(

Any idea in which country the so-called seller lives? A great place to start would be to make representation to the local police. Undoubtedly they would not be interested that much to start with but we could all contact the police once a week until they did start taking note.

Also, was Sedo made aware of the situation, if so surely they would also be liable and culpable?

I think we should all go down with sticks and beat him until he gives up the domain! Vigilante Justice

Yeh, Im with Billbo on that one, the local police would be a good idea and maybe the registrar might be able to do something?

And if we've got lemon juice and salt lets add tequila to the mix and have a jolly up.

On a more serious note, I hope something is resolved so that the rightful owner gets the domain back, although it is probably unlikely.

I can't believe the BS answers from that Jay character from Sedo in the thread.

You can bet that Sedo isn't going to move the ball to help that widow.

It's going to follow the usual course... Netsol will say that the transfer out was authorized by the admin contact and that will be that.

Surely this would show the contempt that these companies hold us all in!

They have a simple choice, in my humble opinion, either they act correctly and resolve this to the domaining communities satisfaction or the domaining community run these companies into the ground by withdrawing all business with them and constantly letting new and existing domainers know what these companies do against them.

It would not surprise me if these companies actions did not appear very soon in blogs and the story is taken up by the press, it would show that these companies believe themselves above the law and with no moral responsibility, now let me think, what was the lady reporters name I have as a contact at the WSJ!

I have just cancelled my account at Sedo and demanded that all monies owed to date are paid by 15th September. I doubt whether others will do the same but I thought I can only proclaim a course of action if I was willing to do it myself.

I would urge any other members who see this as a Sedo insult to domainers (and the law) or do business with Netsol to consider doing the same.

I see more fault with Sedo than the registrars.

Sedo provides the incentive for the hi-jackings. If there are people screwing around with the admin contact data, the registrar systems are going to respond to messages from the correct email address.

Sedo's "security" here is demonstrated to be the sham that it is. The domain name whois data was stable since 1992, and was clearly churned on the way in. Any moron could look at that data and see there were some questions worth asking. Sedo, like a good Swiss banker, doesn't ask questions.

If I drop a watch off at a pawn shop, I get ID'd. Sedo is just collecting commissions while providing non-recourse contracts.

In any event, I have made a public offer to UDRP this at no fee, provided that Sedo fronts the NAF filing charge.

Yeh, it's not really sedo's fault if people abuse there system, scammers will always find a way through. But sedo should be more willing to help because presumably they have the scammers bank details?

It is 'due diligence' here. A bank can be held responsible if drug money is passed through its accounts so what gives Sedo an alibi when what would appear to be a 'wire fraud' transaction takes place. They have the power and responsibility to carry out 'due diligence' in all transactions they partake in. As a wire fraud this is a federal matter in the US for sure, and oh yes, Sedo has a US office, so one would assume are directly covered by US laws.

I agree that Sedo is the primary one at fault here excluding the person who stoll the name.

Has anybody reported the eBay sale to eBay yet? (By the way the eBay listing clearly is misleading as it says the domain has not been 'sold since registration in 1992'.) This just stinks more and more. The seller also has a seller rating of 149 and 100% positive, and the item location is given as Hollywood, California.

P.S. I love the US Federal 'Wire Fraud' laws, I wish ours were as clear and encompassing here in the UK.

Onward, well done mate. Focus, good one mate.
