Retail Buyers and Payment.

Hello,



I am in the proccess of getting a merchant account so I can charge visa/mc (and maybe the other 2).


They were planned ot use for my websites but I though:


Recently I have been having alot more retail (enduser) sales and alot less resseller sales.


Does anyone here have a merchant account and use it to charge enduser sales?

It has been requested believe it or not more than once buy enduser customers.



Just wondering.


Also, what do you use mostly for enduser transactions?

Escrow.com? If not escrow, what else? Western Union?

You can accept credit cards via paypal. If they don't want to use paypal for some reason explain to them that Paypal spends millions of dollars of year in security and fraud prevention so you don't have to, so in turn alows you to pass on the savings.

You set up your merchant account through your bank. After that, you can use the payment solution and gateway of your choice ... ie: authorize.net.

It doesnt have to be through your bank though.

I am jsut wondering if anyone uses a merch account for thier retail buyers.

I recommend Costco for merchant account. It costs quite a bit more than PayPal and if you only use it occasionally, it will be fairly expensive. There are fixed monthly fees and/or minimums with any merchant account. Escrow.com can also accept cards for transactions.

I am not sure if costco Canada has this service... odd..

BTW, Escrow.com only takes CC with shippable goods.

I tried to make a Snapnames.com account shippable, they didnt like that :-D

Will look into Costco.

It's okay to use your MerchantAcct for retail/end users.. just be cautious regarding "chargebacks"

I have used my credit card to buy a domain via Escrow.com so I don't think that is correct information unless they recently changed their policy.

Have also heard of others paying for domains via credit card at escrow.com.

Escrow.com definitely takes credit cards for domain deals (provided the transaction isn't above $5,000).

Paypal is pretty big now. If they don't yet accept cards from a particular country, maybe there's a good reason why that should be heeded.

I only accept PayPal and Escrow.com and have never had a problem. If they're willing to pay the fees, you can always get sedo or afternic to do it and cutthem in. It may be less than the cost of the gateway and/or certificate needed to insure secure transactions. There lots of other Pay acceptors out there besides paypal worth looking into as well as alternatives, many around longer than paypal.

Well, I believe then what it is is:

Domains can be payed via CC
all other non shippable items cant.

The reason I want a merch is becuase my current sites.
I believe they accept enough monthly now that it is necisarry.

The retail buyers part is just a bonus that I was interested in.


And yes, I know CB need to be handled cautiously.

But the retail buyers are all companies (and one government), so I should hope they dont have fruadulent CCs :-D

I had two buyers, who came from countries that are not accepted by paypal ( Egypt + Qatar ) and to get the deal sorted quickly I set up an account with 2checkout.
Was 49,--$ to set up and the usual fees for each transaction.
I am pretty happy about it, makes life easier and I can use it for all other business, too.

Yes I know about 2co too.

But I really think it is important for me to get a merchant account and payment gateway.

It looks much more proffessional and you have alot more say compared to Paypal/2co etc...


Like I said the general purpose of the merch account is for my sites, not domain selling.

But it will work for domain selling too, i hope.
