While I agree with your $xxx today (high $xxx), I disagree with the statement a church is not going to pay big bucks for a domain. Churches exist to communicate a message and there is no cheaper way to reach the masses than the Internet. They (and their members) have plenty of money to pay for what they believe will advance their mission. They simply adapt slower than for-profit businesses.
