You have to email tech support with a screenshot to get it fixed, or at least I did.

I'm confused. That's what I've always done. Are you saying there used to be another way?

Sorry, no. I guess it works for some people / backorders and not for others.

Is there any limit to the number of times you can cancel and re-place a backorder?

no limit to changes, but there is a limit in time. the backorder expires after 1 year.

also, it seems ater they fix the 'broken' ones (through thr screen shot), if another BO fails, the same problem happens, so in reality they havent fixed the system, but rather are resetting manually the failed/broken BO's that you tell them.

Same here. Used the hack method described above to remove 30 failed backorders. I emailed support asking them to remove ALL failed backorders, but they won't do it unless I provide them with a specific list and the last digits of my credit card number. It was easier to just hack their system, so I did.

I wasn't aware there was a 1 year limit on backorders. Is there a way to find out how much time remains?

GoDaddy is one of the most wretched registrars around. I have to call them long distance everyday with this problem. I am so thankful I dropped them for eNom a long time ago.

it's 1 year from when you placed the order.
Unfortunately, I dont think there is a way to know... which sucks.

I'll try hacking the system as described here. I hope it helps.

Their reply to me after sending them the screen shot was that they have escalated the problem, and for me to be patient...
Lookjs like they're all on vacation.

I had a wise teacher in programming class 20 years ago, who told us some very important rules about the business and staying stress-free:

1) Never install new code on a Friday
2) NEVER EVER install new code before a holiday

Looks like the programming crew at Godaddy didn't go to my school.

Also:
- Never work on a payroll application
- Never work on a medical application

GD backorders don't have a 1 year limit.
They used to have that ages ago.

I think godaddy.com are good, but they have definitely had and given a lot of different types of problems over the years.

If you don't mind me asking, do you have a lot of domains with them and do you use their back order system extensively?

Obviously the larger the number of names and the more services like backorders etc are used, the greater potential for problems. (I have 800 names with them).

Some of the past problems that occurred on a large scale were the $49.95 transfer fee, the automatic creation of multiple account ids, and then the arbitrary joining of accounts which went wrong in many cases, plus of course this disappearing backorder link, that now seems to be fixed.

Godaddy.com are generally fairly repsonsive, whether by phone or e-mail. Although they can't of course always do what we want.
