yes, i have been, when i was new to it all, on my first website i put links that were the same colour as the background thinking this would help, google penalized me for this, soon as i deleted them, after a day or two i got my high ranking back

May I ask... How do you know if your page is penalized?
I have a web page that has been excluded from google after introducing Content management system before 8 months (there should not be real reason) and it's still not back even it is popular and google finds about 80 links to it.

i knew it was penalized for two reasons, 1, in the google tool bar the pr had been grayed out, and 2, my site had dropped a few pages back in google, soon as i sorted it out within a few days it was back to no.1

1)Pr has droped to 0
2)All three pages using same technique has droped frm index same time

Google, my worst nightmare...

Got a hotel site in a popular city on no 1 in Yahoo for quite some time now...on Google it´s somewhere under position 246...
According to Google I used fake clicks on the adsense program and got my account shut and somehow a few of my domains don´t "make it into Google" anymore.

Still got PR4 / 3 / 2 on my sites, but you will never find them unless you search for the sites names.

Wish I could change that!

Dunno about the rest of you, but lately Yahoo and Google have been like night and day with their search results. Not even close in many cases. Several times I'll come up 2nd on Google and 60-100th on Yahoo, and vice versa. Makes optimizing for both a bit difficult.

I'm trying to get few of my sites into Google but not my time until now. Easy way to get into Google is to have a Forum. That's what I found out recently.

This isn't always true.

We had a site which was PR8 and was top 3 for certain keywords in Google, then all of a sudden it dropped to PR0 and wasn't listed at all.

After contacting Google, they took about 2 weeks to reply and gave an "Oh well" type response.

Apparently their system had put the site into the black-list, and they couldn't release it.

Even now, months later, it's still at PR0 and has no page titles or descriptions in Google.

if your site does not show up in site:yourdomain.com, it simply means you are not indexed or penalized. That means you are not in their database. and if you know, you WERE there, that means you have been penalized. I see a lot of sites powered by blogger being penalized these days, for some reason.
