Website Extranet

Oh cool, I get to be the first to post in the new forum :approve:

I'm trying to build a robust extranet for my company's website. We have about 50 retail customers that we would like to set up personal pages for. Let me explain . . .

> Each customer will have their own login information consisting of account number and a password. If they enter that correctly, they will be transfered to a page that I specify.
> On that page they should be able to change their password at any time.
> If they forget their password, they will submit to us their account number, email address, and zipcode so that the database can verify that it is them. We will then automatically send the password to them via the email address they gave us.
> I would like to have the pages already setup for them, but requiring them to activate it themselves by inputing their account number and zipcode. From there they can set up their own password.

I want to use an Access database but will use mySQL if absolutely necessary. It has to be written in ASP. I haven't had much experience with either ASP or databases (on the web that is). Can someone direct me to a tutorial, or give me some pointers on what to do? Let me know if I'm not making myself clear.

Before I ask my most knowledgable techy bro about this, why does it have to be in ASP? just curious.

ASP sucks. As a firefox user most sites made w/ asp are a hassel b/c I need to reinstall IE every time. My 2 cents.

Sadly, my server does not support PHP (or anything else of great importance) :emba:

Are you serious? How much do you pay for it? It is isn't that hard to install php (at least I don't think it is).

what i mean is . . . the plan that my company's website is hosted with does not have PHP support. Yeah, i probably could upgrade it, but I would have a hard time trying to get it past my boss. there is probably only one other person where i work that knows anything about websites. if i told my boss that we need to spend more money on the website to get extra "stuff" i would probably get a response like, "what's wrong with it now?" and "looks ok to me". Besides, i already use ASP for all of my other major scripts on the site (ie form mailer, etc). Is it going to be harder to code this with ASP? Will we not have certain functionality?

No, it isn't, but he may not be allowed to install it.

one more question: is this an in-house server or a hosting service?
