Capitalizing on ".mobi" doesn't mean regging useless domain names, since there will be no "Capital" from the names.

.mobi isn't like other TLDs that flopped.. since MS is investing in it.. (IE for mobile phones will be tailored for mobi.. )

since googles is investing in it.. i'm sure they had a talk with the creator of Firefox.. (google owns him by the way).. and will have an SE specifically tailored for mobi devices..

what i see is this.. when i'm in a meeting or lunch discussion.. it's not always practical to bring a laptop.. but i'll always have my pda phone with me.. i'll do a quick search on it with google.mobi and find mobi sites to find information.. ringtones.. ehh sextoys.mobi or adult dating sites might be the place to go to when you're waiting at the dentist or waiting for your car to get a lube job :-D ... don't be so close minded on the mobi market..

don't model this TLD with other TLD flops like EU..

No, it means regging good .mobi domains. I have seen useless domains in all extensions, .com net org info biz de ca etc.

Great thread. I wish some of the other appraisals had such good feedback. And I sure hope there is still something worth reg'ing tomorrow after all the pros and big companies gobble them all up.

All the categories that you mentioned above are fine and will likely get more traffic than other categories such as loan, insurance, credit report, credit score, etc in the first couple of years or so.

Even though I like them but I generally stay away from those categories as there is not much money to be made in these categories....the traffic generally worthless and bids are in single cents.....so why bother.

I have always gone with high bid value categories such as credit, loan, insurance, casino, betting, education, etc without worrying about traffic. My experience is that 1 click on these high bid categories generally equals 200 clicks on games or ringtones etc. In addition, it doesn't drain your bandwidth unnecessarily. Imagine someone checking his/her creditscore and paying you 20 bucks.

I always stick with high bid categories and less with high traffic low value ones.

I know people with 2000 visitors a day making 600 a day while some have 10000 visitors a day and make only 100 a day.

At the end of the day, isn't it about the money?
Thats just my opinion based on my experience.:fencing:
You are assuming parking. That's not the only end game.

Who is going to use their cellphone to check their credit report? I want to meet this one person. Beyond it not happening more than somebody getting hit by lightening, they don't need a lousy .mobi domain to do it. An existing .com, .net cctld etc will do just fine.

I echo jay and azooza. If I had $6000 to plunk down on domains I would buy up known traffic/revenue domains of any extension before diving into .mobi. Now if mobi takes off, I will eat my shoe.

To all those banking on these companies sticking to this extension - they are answerable to only one group of people - their shareholders. If this doesn't start making money fast, they will dump it like every other product in the corporate world that fails to make a return on expenditure.

Just because they are behind it now doesn't mean a thing. Think of the thousands of products companies poured billions of dollars into that are no longer on the market or even on people's minds. From "New Coke" to Sega video game consols - the market dictates success, not how much money you throw at it.

my 2 cents.

when people are on their cell phones browesing, its only a few things i know they'll use the mobi ext for "just out of curiousity" and this will be games/movies/videos/pictures/wallpapers/music/songs/tunes(maybe)/rings(maybe)/ringtones

stuff like shirts and etc, I highly doubt they'll just type it in, unless they've seen it being advertised or something, but anyway.. just my two cents

thats why I believe .mobi is very limited and only the short ones that actually related to mobile will get the most attention, unless they've seen something else advertised.
