Just wanted to add - all those premium domains (email.ca, travel.ca, etc) - they didn't pick them up in drops, they bought them originally - they were the original purchasers.

Anyhoo, I've met them, they are great guys, and it irks me that someone is badmouthing them without knowing them in any way!

CIRA will hold a Special Meeting of Members in Toronto
on February 1, 2006 at 16:30 EST to vote on
corporate governance reforms.

I might go there for this.. when holding alot of .ca you should stay up on the newest rules and regs.. they change more than you think, I've noticed the topic of domain squatting coming up in the minutes of their meetings and have to wonder if they outlaw domain investment. They do frown on it, and try to run a fair market for all.

Interesting and what a coincidence today....

I won a name today.. reclaim.ca .. YaY I'm thinkin.. go out and come back home and find the name was taken away, after I was given notice of ownership.. I just checked the whois and find Eby Theva owns it now.. not only is the name ever so similar but the address is the same as one of his alias names i have tagged. Now I'm gonna have to research this incident.

Update: 3 names taken away... one to pools auction hole, another to FWS and the best of the three to ebeneezer.

Wow! That sucks. To be honest eventhough I am canadian, the dot com and net are still kings and the ca will never touch em imo. And if they do reach todays dot com prices Id hate to see the price of a premium dot com when it happens.

Outperform but still cheaper ( generally ). I personally as one not looking to develope will take the more valuable extension. And by outperform you speak of in that particular country. I would prefer owning the dot com and net when marketing my site/company etc. But you are right for those two particular countries perhaps.

Does anyone know the search difference by numbers between the dot ca and dot com
within canada ?

.COM, yes; .NET, no. My understanding is that most Canadian would choose to go with .CA instead.

Oh ok, I just assumed ( which I should not ) that canadians would type in commonly search premium word more so in the net extension. So many variables I suppose to factor in :)

But yes I agree regiostrations are rising.

If you haven't already, everyone should go over
to DNJournal(dot)com and read the latest article
on a lookback at the 2005 domain market, and a look
ahead at 2006 by some of the top domainers. Most
of them are saying the domain market is still in its
infancy, and even bigger things lie ahead. Growth in
Country code domains is mentioned, although no specific
mention of .ca

More potential in the .co.uk market but both have great opportunities to become a fair sized market. It's too bad that AU's registry is run the way it is, perhaps it would then be up there too.

the owners email.ca always seem to get decent domains aswell. somewhat suspicious.
example: casino.ca, movies.ca, school.ca, restaurants.ca, music.ca, books.ca, stamps.ca, software.ca, news.ca, kids.ca, law.ca, cars.ca, travel.ca, realestate.ca etc.. the list goes on...and recently acquired, bank.ca...

The guy who owns the above names was (maybe still is) the President of the .tv corporation. His name is Jason Chapnik. I guess being President of the .tv, you can buy whatever .ca name you want.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't know what you are talking about, you shouldn't post it.

My friend, if I DIDN'T know what I was talking about, I wouldn't have posted it. You may want to read this article from wired.com. It is the same Jason Chapnik who owns information.ca (as mentioned in the article below), sex.ca, and email.ca.

The fact that you said '(maybe still is)' means you are going on some very old data.

Nevertheless, the real point was that somehow being affiliated with .tv let Jason register .ca domains. This shows absolutely no understanding of how .ca was originally controlled, and thus my friendly suggestion to know a bit more before spouting out rumors which are absolutely false :)

AhmedF, I am sorry, but you don't understand yourself what you talking about. The point here is that how one person could get the best names?
It is not fair, and it is impssible to get these names in fair process. Say what ever you want but if there is a guy that got all elite-premium names like email, kids, informaton, sex etc. there is something fishy going on with the registry. I , like many other people registered some names during .ca pre-registration when it only came out. Thousands of people tried to register good names, and I don't believe this person got all the names in fair process.

..and yes, this is the same jason chapnik that sold realtor.com, and he invested all the finds into tv names, and somehow got all the best .ca names

He got them in a very fair and legal way. Unfair? Each person has their own viewpoint, but there was definitely nothing underhanded nor connected with .tv (or realtor.com).
