im looking for a cheap (or free) whois API/Script.

i simply need it to find out the status of a domain, I have seen some that you have to pay for but I am interested in knowing whether one is free.

I need it to return the value of a domain, rather than forward the uer to a url.

or if anybody has any websites that teach you how to parse a webpage in php, that would also come in handy.

yes a script like that would be fine.

but a script that returns more values such as the specific status (Pending Delete, Available, Not Available, Registrar Hold), would be more specific to my interests.

for puting on a web page? or a web page you can access? I have a whois in java, I could turn into an applet that seems like it may do what you want.
parsing the whois data is more difficult because there is no standard format

Well I found the text below in the enom help files. Is it wrong and out of date and the api provides full whois now?
---------
How can I provide a WHOIS lookup on my reseller site that can look up domains not registered in my account or at eNom?

eNom does not currently offer any tools or scripts for a Universal WHOIS Lookup. The GetWhoisContact API command can be used to retrieve WHOIS information for domains registered at eNom in your own account only.

There are many script sharing sites that offer tips and samples of how to create your own comprehensive WHOIS lookup. Simply use your favorite search engine to find a script that will work for you.
----------

If you know the enom api now provides this you just helped free up my weekend! Thanks.
