Just as I'm starting to get this whole expiring domains thing figured out...

Well, I suppose those domains not backordered prior to 60 days before expiration will still drop as usual. Plus there will be the uniform drop procedures, a positive thing.

(Trying to be optimistic here....)

jalapeno: that's wrong. It means that if xyz.com is a NSI name, NSI can't get the WLS slot in the last 60 days, but another registrar can.

Furthermore, not that they used "60 days before DELETION", not "60 days before EXPIRATION". Since NSI hoards names, this means that they just need to wait an extra couple of months, and then hit the delete button, instead of deleting before then, to comply with the 60 day paper-tiger.

As I guessed in a prior post... Why have a closed meeting to do nothing or something popular? When I heard the meeting was closed, figured this would be the result.

Is the other shoe to drop --- wider use of registrary and registrar auctions to extra consumer surplus from valuable names?

It means ICANN approves WLS, a cash-grab for Verisign. It also means that registrars that are negatively affected, and who are fighting for consumer choice, will appeal within 15 days.

This will be interesting.

I like the fact that there *seems* like there will be more pressure for NSI to drop domains more regularly. I don't like the fact that they are no doubt making other registrars who don't have MUNGED systems "think over" delaying some domain drops (no doubt). Just like Discount Domain Registry of America made many registrars "think over" the idea of "slamming".

Oh, well.

Can someone explain to me what all this means in plain english, or direct me to a site that can.

*********************************

It means you'll need a giant economy size bottle of vaseline and something to hang onto when you bend over.

50 mill + cost to the consumer just to establish a monopoly for a company that already proved they couldn't handle it before.

BTW that consumer is you.

Anyone know what the speculated price for an order would be (WLS)? I heard a figure mentioned around $30-$40.

Thanks!

God, I hope some serious actions are filed against the ICANN IDIOTS WHO APPROVED the WLS by a 11-2-2 vote.

My weekend is ruined...
