Would You Invest in Domains Like Stocks? Seeking Feedback on My Startup Idea!

Hey!

I’ve been brainstorming an idea for a platform and wanted to get some honest feedback from this community. The concept is this:

What if domains could be traded like stocks?

Domains are essentially digital real estate, and they hold a lot of untapped value. However, existing marketplaces feel outdated and are primarily aimed at brokers or large investors. My goal is to create a platform where anyone can:

• Buy, sell, and bid on domains seamlessly, just like trading stocks.
• Track domain trends and market analytics in a user-friendly app.
• Manage their domain portfolio all in one place.

And here’s an exciting part of the vision: Fractional domain ownership. This would let multiple investors buy shares of high-value domains, democratizing access to premium assets. While fractional ownership wouldn’t be available at launch, it’s a feature we plan to roll out once we establish the platform and grow the user base.

Why I’m Posting Here:

• Would you use a platform like this? Why or why not?
• Does fractional ownership excite you?
• Are there features you think would make domain trading simpler or more appealing?

We’re currently building a prototype to validate the idea and launching a waitlist soon. Your feedback would mean the world to me as I refine the concept.

20 years before, if you had a .COM, it was enough validation for investors to invest in your idea. The concepts of startups and fund raising entirely started from the COM bubble. But, we have to realize the reality of the world we thrive. It's 2025, and there are a plethora of options for us to take our business online. And, you will be suprised people are very comfortable having a IG account for their business.

• Does fractional ownership excite you? ----------> Domains are not a limited commodity.

I would treat domain name investment as a long-term investment, similar to stocks. By purchasing short, easy-to-remember, and high-demand domain names, you can sell them when market demand increases to get returns. However, market fluctuations also bring risks, and you need to do a good job of analysis and risk management before investing. Your entrepreneurial idea has potential, especially combined with your knowledge of domain names.

This sounds like a great idea to me, and I'm surprised if no one has done this before. I've invested through many platforms for fractional shares such as Rally Road (collectibles), Lofty (real estate), etc. Will be interested to see what you come up with!

I do remember somebody on some forum either here or namepros coming up with an idea similar to this some years ago. I don't think it ever materialized with a site online, however, so I do not remember much else about it.
