I won't retire. Ever. The more money, the better. If you don't know where to spend them, there is only 1 word: Charity.

This business is so cool. What people call work, I call messing around on the internet because I actually enjoy it. For all you "newcomers" there are still many many gems to find in the rough DAILY. How do I know? Cause I find them daily -- its the most addicting thing ever... finding a great domain out of a few hundred thousand junk names. What a feeling! With that goes a saying.. "One man's junk is another man's treasure!" Upgrading to exclusive here was a smart move. I recommend doing the same for others -- take advantage of this massive resource, your peers and available software tools. My first paycheck in this business was $32 after two weeks of alot of "work" to try to get things going. A little over 5 years later, I'm doing very nicely, but it took time and 18 hour days "messing around" on the internet. Keep at it and learn to work smarter, not harder. Computers are employees and automation is key! Make them work for you. If you can't imagine yourself making $4k/month or even $40K/month then how in the world can you ever expect to realize your dream? Don't let your mind limit you... Dream big and take action... imagine yourself making whatever it is you want to make and take each day as a stepping stone to take yourself there. It all starts with $1. Believe in yourself!

Best wishes to all!

Roy

$40k/mth TODAY may not be $40k/mth TOMORROW.

The $40k income is dependent on PPC rates. What is the outlook for PPC rates 2006-2010, in fact, what's the outlook for the whole industry?

Like mike031 said, it's time to move on... where to?

I disagree, the more I contemplate it, the more I believe we will start to see PPC rates go down and CPA take over.

yup
can't agree more! the ppc industry is in its last stages..the ROI from an advertiser's perspective is not the same when compared to CPA..

Analogy: about 8-10 years ago, banner advertising revenue on web sites was incredibly high. I had one general interest site with some fairly decent traffic and was getting $150 CPM - based on page views. Higher rates for some specialized traffic areas rather than run of mill. Banner ad pricing started going down on a CPM basis once advertisers had a hard look at their ROI. Banner ads worked well for branding. But not for actual clicks. Thus the move towards CPC.

I've been working along side ad agencies for many years now online... and the move is definitely towards CPA from CPC .... right now we're heading into what is PEAK spending time for most advertisers but rates aren't going up when they should be. If anything, they are going down.

I don't agree that getting paid on a CPA basis is necessarily a bad thing. It's all about how things are managed and the quality of traffic you are dealing with. I've done many major CPC deals *in place* of CPM or CPC basis ones for alternative online advertising from a selling side and in those cases, I ended up further ahead than I would have if have gone the CPM or CPC route.

One example - competitors to one of my specialized consumer groups were charging around $50 CPM. That would have netted me $250 per ad. I did a deal with a company offering a trial download of their software product where I got paid $5 per download. Their selling price was something like $60 and they knew their conversion rate from trial download to actual sale. Around 5.5% clicked through from the ad. If I had done the normal 0.10 per click for this type of deal, that would have meant 275 - a little above a fixed ad rate. Of the 5.5% that clicked through, just under half ended up downloading the trial. Do the math :)

The point I'm getting at here is that I think there is going to definitely be a shift to CPA from CPC. In fact, I'll be so bold to predict that by this time next year, more advertising $ will be spent on CPA than CPC as a whole.

that will only happend when and if google/yahoo -- the two giants decide to make the switch...if there is more money to be made that way then they will transition into cpa rather quickly...of course you have to get it right first. maybe they will over the next year...maybe not. who knows, this things take time. billions of dollars in stake :-)

If you want to make the super big bucks, concentrate on one
premium dot com, then sell to Microsoft or Yahoo for $300 million.

I might do this after a few years break.

Then I could buy a 5 million dollar home cash in the Caribbean with boats, toys, and servants.

stevesko ...try building a shopping mall in the middle of the desert ... lots of "content", no customers. Buy names with type-in traffic, then you don't need to worry about content OR deserts.

someone set me up and show me how to make 40K a month on domains and I will give them half of the profit..... i think the main thing is that some people are very reluctant to help others... so for 40k a month yea i would retire and give the person who got me there half the profit......

I wouldn't. Like others stated I would re-invest. Although, I would relax a lot and not strees things as much.
