Could I have a few appraisals as to a value please? Greatly appreciated.
I am thinking of donating the name to an agricultural college or something, and I'd like an appraisal, and then perhaps use that towards my tax this year.
(has anyone every done anything like this, by the way?)

hey, sounds like a great idea. i personally like the name, though not sure if the general public even knows exactly what biodynamic farming is, although some do.

I own FarmlandPreservation.info. Let me know how this works out as I may like to do the same at some point.

as far as appraisal, I see a larger than average margin between reseller price and end-user price, as I see this name being of good value to the right end user, but I would'nt imagine a typical reseller here giving this name much value because as i said, i don't think the majority of people know what it is.

without seeing any numbers (overture, search results, etc) I don't think you will find a reseller here to pay > $50, more likely $25 - $40 range. If you find the right end user, I think it could be potentially worth much more. so I don't know how you determine 'fair market value' for this. just my thoughts.

cheers.

good idea, name value close to $0 though IMO
You cant just reg a name and write it off the same year for a lot more by just donating it.
You would need a really good name to begin with not for the IRS to question the whole thing. It also depends at how much the institution that you are planning to donate the name to values the name at since it is on their books as an asset, and they are certainly are interested in accurate values.

This name is worth zero.

well you may actually be right, in any event ...

from wikipedia article on biodynamic farming:

The term Biodynamic is a trademark held by the Demeter association of biodynamic farmers for the purpose of maintaining production standards used both in farming and processing foodstuffs.

thanks - I did not see these responses and have just reposted the thread essentially. all were very helpful, thank you. I think it's more nuanced than the zero value person's comment. He might have criteria he's judging that upon, and therefore his opinion might be valid. but I agree with the first resondent's view that anything has some value/worth in terms of money - if someone's willing to pay for it. and that is present in this instance - so I guess I had to discount the comment. appreciate the effort to reply though - sounds very liberal of me, I know.
Or, the chap might just have been in a bad mood,a nd wanted to tell me and the rest that we are stupid. thats seems to exist on the forms from time to time, I find
