I'm thinking: first develop bookstore dot com into a massive e-book store. Then, start working on the iPad app for it... --> $,$$$,$$$

What an awesome domain.

Five months on you still have not developed it, a tragedy. Get moving man.

I say go 2.0 - start out just selling eBooks. Getting working on an iPhone/iPad app and name it Bookstore.com.

That or sell it to somebody who wants to or one of the big retailers etc. I have no doubt you could get 7 figures for this name now. You must be a rich, rich man if you are willing to sit on this domain and not either cashout or develop it.

Not to be the bearer of bad news but selling e/ibook apps is pointless, youd have to assume visitors are looking for such apps, apps for a tablet they dont own yet and likely even if millions do they visit ibooks... but hey jmo. Stick to real paper books :)

You obviously do not have an iPhone. You don't buy App's on a website. You buy them on your iPhone or from iTunes. The App would be a way to send traffic to the website but people would be using the website to buy eBooks. Where they read those eBooks would be up to them - they could read them on their computer, their Kindle, their iPhone, iPad or whatever.

I suggested to start with eBooks so you don't have to deal with customer support and inventory and because that industry looks like it is about ready to explode. Over time you could branch out into selling real books or sell them through affiliate programs etc.

I admit I am not familiar with the terms, true. What I ment is, are visitors looking to buy such things/books for their tablet/phone etc? I suspect most visitors want paper, no?

It depends what you mean by 'most visitors'. If bookstore.com was built, marketed and known as an eBook retailer, most visitors to the site would be looking for eBooks...

The market share for eBooks now I'm sure is very small compared to the overall market for books sold online, however they are gaining a lot of momentum. First the Kindle and now the iPad - they may become very, very popular over the next few years and gain a pretty large piece of the pie.

You can try to beat Amazon, Barnes and Nobles and Borders at their own game, or you can try and carve out a niche in an infant and promising market. I would choose the latter. You can always fall back on the former if it doesn't work out.

By most visitors I mean why the name carries value, natural targeted traffic and brandable, brandable to paper not ebooks. If it was ebook or ebookstore yes but you cannot take something and make it something else, imo any ways. A book is no longer just a book lol

Fearfull is one of my favourite people
He insulted me, perfectly, here one day years ago.
And he tipped me off about EPN which has been splendid for me.

Therefore I have spent some time thinking about the name in question
And believe it or not, I do not think selling books or e-books is the way to go

If I wanted to buy a book, I would type in books.com ( just pretend I have never heard of amazon )

Books.com is the killer DN in that category

If I wanted to buy a bookstore, anywhere, I would type in bookstore.com
I cannot explain why one is singular and the other is plural

Bookstore.com is the killer DN in the category of bookstores for sale

As a matter fact, if I was lucky enough to own that DN, I would probably rent a store, fill it with books, and then sell the business by installing a wordpress plugin that is normally used to sell houses
And repeat.

I would look to partner with a competitor of the kindle...an exclusive partnership. Amazon has such a huge lead that others may need a huge splash.

I would not develop with out a targeted strategic partner - I think it will be a waste of time and money doing it on my own.

I really hope this is a joke.

How many of those xxx,xxx people searching for 'bookstore' in Google every month do you think are looking to buy a bookstore? How many bookstores do you think are even sold every month? I would guess less than 50 in all of the USA. And somehow I don't think bookstore owners and bookstore buyers are the types of people to conduct such business online.

This would be like selling credit card manufacturing companies on creditcards.com.

EPN is Ebay Partner Network

PokerPie :
No , it was not a joke
I really do think there would be more action in business realty to the few, than in books to the masses
It is only my opinion
And please do not mistake me for someone who cares

PokerPie, I have a Kindle, and an iPhone. I don't use anything but Amazon.com app on the iphone or Amazon.com on a laptop/desktop. I don't know to many regular ebook/hardcopy book readers, who don't have the BN.com, or Amazon.com apps & use those exclusively. I would never go to bookstore.com to buy a book - unless it was set up first class & I could rely upon it. Amazon has so many book reviews that just going to a book site to order a book, without reading book reviews, isn't a fair comparison.

The "BN.com free e-reader" is #3 on & the "Kindle for iphone" is #2 on the Categories/Books section.

There are so many free book sites on the iphone, unless bookstore.com had some kind of partnership it would be a tough industry to break into, imo. And that doesn't count what the Apple iPad may involve. Amazon is already cancelling contracts with publishers who don't comply with their exclusive contracts.

Then google has their book issue still in progress. I wouldn't be surprised to see Google's Buzz kill Twitter - google, amazon, apple are just so dominant.

i beg to differ. Writers are always looking to find a good distribution company. Setting up a site would be prime. At first you would have to break into the industry but you have a head start with a great domain. If you want to do some development send me a PM.

DNBA - is there a website other than BN.com, amazon.com, borders.com that sells any books of any significant number? I can go on the iphone and get pretty much any book I want for free - and if it's not free, it's easy enough to know how to do it. Amazon and the kindleblogs sell books on how to get books for free.

There are so many ebooks for free on amazon and other sites, the book industry is cutthroat. I bought sex.com book for $2.99 on amazon. A hard copy goes for $18. If an author doesn't sell on amazon, bn.com, or borders, they aren't authors of any great importance.
