I am interested if it really means "airline". Where are you getting the translation, I get "Route" of an airliner or ship and show 航空公司 to mean "airline".

航空公司

Mdbg.net gives airline / airline company
Systrans give Airline

Basically company is implicit within Airline. More literally the symbols appear to me Aviation Company --> Airline.

航空 means Aviation I think!

I see what you mean:

航 sail; navigate; ship, boat

线 line, thread, wire; clue

Yes, but the trouble is that when people say "airline", what they mean is "airliner".

sail + line to me basically implies sailing (or air) route.

A lot of the problem is in English. I would say that when people say "airline," what they mean is not even "airliner;" it's "company that provides air transportation."

In any event, this thread is an excellent example of some of the issues involved in international domain name translation.

Seller is from China so perhaps that makes this an even more interesting example.

thanks for all reply.

In Simp. Chinese, "Airline" means "航线", Just like Rubber said,
航 means "sail", 线 means "line", very simple and clear.

you can see this from google "航线" returns,
http://img145.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc86&image=34043_google.JPG

"Air" means "航空", such as "海南航空"---> "hainan air" .

"中国国际航空" ---->"Air China"

You can refer their website www.hnair.com / www.airchina.com.cn

But if we say "航空公司",the translation should be "airline company"

or "airlines", such as

"海南航空公司" ---->"hainan airline company" or "hainan airlines"
