trying to determine what a reasonable offer would be for it, a client in the fishing pole business is looking to expand online.

What makes you think its only worth what it sold for 2+ years ago? Let's start putting a little common sense into our appraisals...

If anything, what with the economy and domain reseller bear market it seems to me it would be worth LESS, not more vs 2 yrs ago, imo, assuming that was the actual domainer (not neccesarily end user) value 2 years ago.

I agree with David and Tekz - currently with the dead economy everything is worth less than 2 years ago.

I'm not saying it's worth more or less, I'm saying its somewhat ignorant to post the same exact amount that it sold for 2 years ago...that's not really an appraisal.

I wish the value of this domain was less than two years ago, not so sure that is the case. Possibly the price paid back two years ago was low. I see many industry specific keyword domain names and phrases selling for much more than $60k these past couple years. Not sure, but seems specific keyword domains that have annual sales in the hundreds of millions are showing great value at sedo and auctions, selling in the high $five figure range with many even into the $six figure. I hope the values have dropped as many of you are suggesting here.

Make your first offer 25k and see what happens - you can always go up.

And I think you are right if it went for 59k two years ago - somebody got a great deal.

$10-15k

Fishing Pole only has 3,600 exact match searches. Fishing rod has 6,600 exact match searches. I think people look for fishing rods rather than fishing poles.

I don't care what someone previously paid for it. That has no impact on it's current market value to someone else.

I agree regardless of what was previously paid. One might be willing to pay twice what was previously paid or less.

I assume by your posts that you don't own the domain?

Justin with you believing as I do the value today is typically less from 2yrs ago, what would you appraise this domain at.

yes, as I stated above, I have a client in this industry that wishes to grow his online sales

Prospecting, please stop asking the trouble maker appraisal. Obviously, he is not here to give appraisals. It is a clear reflection of what type a person is, whether he is here to contribute or cause trouble and harassment. By either way, my EQ is so much higher than his IQ so just let him be that way and don't enlighten him and give him improvement.

It isn't worth as much as people think. Unless someone on this board would cough up 15k for it right now then I think you would be lucky to get low XX,XXX....very low. The name is a bit awkward, and nobody would really type that in, anyways. Whomever sold it for 58K a few years ago is laughing all the way to the bank. They knew what they had.....a name that looks like it is valuable but really isn't.

There is actually some value in the fact that this is the type of name that could actually trap someone into a huge mistake if they bought it. It kinda looks better than it is, until you stop to think about what you are actually buying. This is the type of name that someone might try to pump/unload up at Traffic auction.

I wouldn't even give it a low XX,XXX value, but I know someone would jump in here and tell me how they would pay that now......but I don't think the money would change hands when push came to shove. I would say that 99 out of 100 domainers would rather have 10K in cash than this name....if they could pick between the two right now.

I know about the perfect world scenarios if you find the end-user, but I still don't like it because it is isn't the category killer and type in traffic would be low, and it is a bit awkward for a site name.

I am with Elliot, I am shocked at $58k two years ago let alone today. So many beautiful names available for $58k... was the buyer an end user ( I hope ).

I like the plural a lot more and agree that 'rods' is a more accepted term, but I still believe this name is decent in he low five figures 15-20k maybe a little less if it was for sale at a TRAFFIC show. If your client is in the fishing business - he/she may be able to tell you what it would be worth to them - they seem to be an end user here.
