Why do people think google results make there domain name worth more?? You can type anything and get a lot of results on google. "Cheese Baseball" gets 146,000 google results. Does that mean that cheesebaseball.com is worth anything?

"cheese baseball" gets only 42 results

you have to put the phrase in quotes...

otherwise it just turns up any page that has the words not together anywhere on the entire page

OK, I learned something new today. But still, how does google results make a domain name worth more??

Google results are mainly competition barometer.
Less sites = more chances for your site to be better listed.

Higher results can be usefull for developing purposes, meaning
there is a lot of info on which you could build your site.

well it is only one small factor out of many. what it does is tell how common a word or phrase is used. If someone comes here with a word or phrase and it shows low results. It is unlikely that the word/phrase is common enough to have value.

"cellular phones" common combination of words

"cut buy" uncommon

i tend to use google as a way to make sure i'm getting the most commonly used spelling of a word or to make sure i get the "right"
saying when dealing with 2 or 3 words.

for example

"the whole shebang" brings up 33,000 results

"the whole shabang" brings up 2,090

the higher the results, the more common the word/phrase

Google results, when done properly (multiple words in quotes) are a good indicator of how popular terms are.

Cheesebaseball.com is worthless because the 43 sites that mention it have the terms accidentally next to each other and not on purpose. Baseballdiamond.com is better because there are 38,700 sites mentioning it. Baseballbat.com is even better because that has 240,000 sites listing it.

Now, after that you have to figure out whether the popularity of the word or words is related to commercial possibilities or not. "Having" has 42,900,000 mentions but it's awfully vague for a site name.

Still, those things are worth weighing.

I agree with kidkool. I only use Google to see how popular a spelling or phrase is.

If you search for "cheese baseball" - even in quotation marks - Google will return results with punctuation.

I like cheese. Baseball is my favorite sport.
