Sometimes when im searching for domains I will see .com and .org taken but .net still remains.. is there a reason for that or is it someone just didn't want to bother buying it? The domains are mainly keywords, some popular, some not.

The business mindset is .com

The non-profit sector mindset is .org, even while forsaking the .com

.net never established it's identity as well as .com and .org. .net's purpose was clear in the mind of the creator but never stuck with the public.

TheWatcher... why .net?
does northameria.net generate $$ for you?

Im wondering about the psychology behind a .net site. I think when people see one they see it as "second best".. because they're always programmed to hear a .com as most popular (of course), so if its popular it must be reputable. But I think if someone builds a .net site its ultimately its what you make of it and services offered.

What is the future of .net? Is it dead or shall we see bright future for it

I like .nets too, but unfortunately, .net domains are getting more and more unpopular it seems. You could get more for a generic .net a year ago then you can now. Everyone wants .com and we can't blame them. :)

With that being said, I have sold a couple of .net domains to end-users this year. Most people know that the .com equivalent of some names will be priced so sky high, that they'll settle for the .net instead.

I would take the.net if it's a business related domain and the .com is taken by a major company. For instance I bought the .net to a domain in which the .com was taken by CNN. I feel the domain, the name itself, is a very strong term so I grabbed the .net.

It is ideal for this specific purpose and .com is not available. If I have the version of .org or .com, I will redirect this to .net

Revenue is acceptable, self-sufficient website, no promotion needed.

And I am using @king.net for my domain business transaction.

I believe three letter .Net's still get the 2nd highest average prices. I think it's still the best choice after .Com for most profit based businesses seeking international exposure. I respect .Org, but it makes me think of orgasm.

Actually it looks like 3-letter .nets are picking up again. I've seen some nice mid $x,xxx LLL.net sales on Sedo lately.

I prefer them in the order of Com, Org, Info, and then net.
Simply because Nets dont really have an identity in peoples minds.

It seems like .net are in the shadows of the internet. I usually never hear a tv commercial say go to ********.net And when I do see one I always think... BAD IDEA! you just promoted the .com of that site. I think the most memorable domains are .com's and country code domains. I always remember .ca and .us.

I respect .Org, but it makes me think of orgasm.
 I was actually thinking of that the other day.
I also pondering that the .com kinda sounds like cum.
And then theres .net .. kinda makes me think of well.... a net a fishing net or something.. kinda sounds boring. Who knows maybe deep in peoples psyche they register that idea. mmmm.

I usually never see .info's out there.. and i usually never have a memorable one that i goto all the time. So whats the scoop?

surprised by the lack of love for .net here...
I think its a great extension for a community websites or as the partner site to a main site.

plus if .com is regged the .net provides great seo value.

Not sure how relevant, but stats certainly suggest .net is in wide use. Worldwide registrations (courtesy DomainTools) ...

.com 78,509,247
.net 11,970,419
.org 7,280,043

Any way to dig up the growth rate per year of all 3?
