In other words, instead of letting the good names go to the drop cycle they keep them for themselves and sell them for a higher profit.

Aren't there any legal restrictments to this ? Or like, do they have a specific section in their TOS that allows them to do that ?

Would be interesting to know.

Enom does it regardless, by holding domains hostage in "Extended RGP" indefinitely, monetizing their traffic or until they get sold.

This is despicable. Registrars should be banned and penalized for doing this.

Agreed. I just paid $2500 to purchase a name that a small registrar would not let drop (it was registered by one of their clients at one point that is not longer contactable). Grrr....

eNom does sell off some of the domains at $199. Not sure where they come from though.
