just regged it, was looking at sedo for a wine domain and used what was for sale as inspiration for names to search.

and wanted to get opinions on these others i have in my account:

OnlineWineRoom.com is probably worth zero. After all, 6 billion people could have registered it for the last 20 years or so, and they decided not to, so it has to be worth zero. Now, that doesn't mean all names that are available are worth zero, but wine is not some new technology or product, and the word online does not add any value to it, just like Female Model doesn't make sense......model is prefered. WineRoom.com is enough.......and obviously that would have value, but adding online to it doesn't cut it.

The recycle names are tricky because they look like they should have value, but the reality is that you don't/won't get type-in traffic, and even though those are legitimate phrases, it is just hard to imagine somebody paying you good money to buy one of those names and build a site on it, when the reality is that those types of people don't need these names to build their sites, since they won't get any bonus traffic with the purchase.

The list of names is not good because when people glance at the list they actually have to read everything closely. Nothing strong jumps out. You have a bunch of added words in there that make the names worthless. Take the name TheBestFishingLure.com, for instance. Of course, FishingLure.com would have good value, and maybe even BestFishingLure.com could be argued to have value of a tad more than reg fee (debatable, but arguable). However, TheBestFishingLure.com can't have any value in the world I live in......and it shouldn't. The name can't possibly get any traffic, and you can't possibly imagine someone buying it from you for a decent price, so zero it is.

Now, some would argue that you could develop some of these names and create value. I would argue that they are full of crap, since you could theoretically develop any name into some type of value proposition. These names don't bring anything to the table that is needed or cannot be found in other names that are readily available.

I see you joined in 2004, so you are doing something right (or spending lots of money). Deep down you know that these names aren't worth anything....I am fairly certain of that. I would almost wager my life that of the names you listed you have never once received an email offer from someone inquiring about a purchase. That is one of the signs of a name that is not worth registering, though there are certainly names that are worth money that have never received offers. I don't think these fall into that group.

I am not trying to be mean. Beware of names that look like they could possibly be worth something. They generally aren't. I have seen people use phrases like real estates and words like pokers. The whole point of the game is to recognize what makes a name have value. Names that seem close to being good are actually not that close at all.

i appreciate the honesty. i dont reg domains that often to be honest....just when i think something might work. i have had my fair share of $8 domains turn sales of $500+ and some over $1k plus. obviously those instances have been very few and far between but they have happened.

but what i have learned is that aside from getting dictionary, one word, perfect domain names......there is a very large group of people buying names that are the "next best". not saying that my names are those, but when someone wants to get their shop online, and wineshop.com is taken....and for sale for $10k......they would be inclined to buy onlinewineshop.com for a fraction of the cost. because in the end, the site success isnt based on type ins or any of that nonsense, but based on their marketing and self promotion.

my point is that there is a market out there for people that wont buy premium domains for top dollar, but would spend a fair amount on a second or third best name. Even if I sell a domain for $25 and regged and renewed it for one year, thats still a $10 profit. it might not be the glamorous life most people want to lead, but it keeps my hobby afloat.

i would love to think i can get rich off this, but i learned a few years ago it isnt gonna happen. like when i missed the boat on three letter .nets. right around when i joined there were a ton left to reg.....or was it .org.....either way, the fact i didnt pull the trigger on those still bother me to date.

maybe one day ill find the thing that i enjoy most with domains.....because i still havent found it.

but once again thanks for the honesty, i need to refer to this post next time i reg a name. maybe i should just buy aregged names from members here or on sedo with less frequency and try to make one/two big sales.

I offered on the recyclable ones.. I like the name but in reality all energy is recyclable.. but could have used them for some green sites in my network. Am sure someone else will see the same and offer more in time. (my offer still stands though )

Of course you can approach it any way you wish. The one thing I seem to notice is that most people start drifting away from good names and spend lots of time on average or terrible names. I would think that it would be much more rewarding to concentrate on maybe finding one or two great names and figuring out a way to get them. If you use the same creativity and ingenuity to find a way to get a really good name, then you only need to get it right a few times.

It is a simple theory. Some people see a beautiful woman and spend their lives trying to improve themselves so they can play at the highest level, while others spend their time taking what the world offers them and rationalizing that is might actually be what they really want. It happens when people choose careers, as well. Lots of people choose a horseshit job/career that they don't even like because it has "good benefits" or it "pays the bills".

They find dinosaur fossils from 350 million years ago. Humans can't make it past 120 years, but more realistically it is more like 80-90 years that you have. I guess it is everyone's right to spend their time on things that cannot possibly ever turn out to be life-changing in a good way, but I beileve that life is more worthwile if you pursue excellence and try to be the best you can be.

Spending precious moments on essentially worthless names will never get you the girl, and you won't like the looks of things when you look back on how you spent your time. That's my theory. I have had worse names than you, and here I am offering lots of zero appraisals, but I know that a few people have seen the light and moved on from the garbage because they have thanked me by PM.

There is no law against wasting your life, but it is much more fun to spend your time trying to play at the highest level of whatever you choose to do.
