Since the internet is about interacting with other people, I would say this is about the best "people" type name you could have.

I think with names like this you could easily move around 9K. However there is someone out there that would pay a lot more. Especially if they had a solid business plan to go with the name. With this type of client you could fetch upwards of 25-30K.

Bottomline: If it's a .com, a well-known phrase, or word, it will sell at a decent price. You just have to find the type of person who wants to build a business around the name. Not someone who is looking to buy from you, just to turn around and sell it again.

If 5500 people were dumb enough to type it into a search engine, instead of their browser address, how many do you think actually type it in to their browser address?

Also, I have a site with a similar alexa rank, and I know how much traffic it gets.

Another indicator of value that I use off google is the # of paid adword boxes:

For "Pen Pals" there are 8 boxes on the right side of the page when you do a search on Google:

What does this mean? It means that people feel strong enough to plunk down a lot of money for this "keyword". 8 is a very solid #. Average is probably 2 to 3 boxes.

Let's call it the "Google Box" method of valuation by izopod!

This domain doesn't get 10 000 visitors/day.
It gets 1000-3000/ day
If it comes to numbers, I'd say $5000 as a low wholesale to $100 000 as a hight retail.

alexa ? OH shit Beachie....

For starters Overture is showing 128,000 "other" monthly searchs.. for "Penpals" multiply by 3 for all the "major" se's ... then divide by 2 to get rid of duplicate searchs , webmasters and other nonsense = 192,000 rough estimate

PenPals.com ranks on the 4th PAGE of google...picking up 2--3 uniques ady from that position.

Penpals.com ranks 2nd Page of MSN.com ..picking up 2-3 uniques aday

Penpals.com ranks #1 on alltheweb.com= 60-100 uniques aday

Penpals.com ranks 6th on Alta Vista.. picks up maybe 15 Uniques ady

So you have 12,000 other links.. and THATS where you have to determine the quality of those links.. they may bring in a tremendous amount of traffic...or they may be like many links that dont bring in much at all..

The only way to know for certain is to look at the LOGS...

I apologize for being in a grumpy mood this evening..

I was looking at the 5500 traffic..that alone does not make this a 10-25k name (IMO)..and that was where the confusion was because hose were the only numbers I was looking at...

It's very nice traffic... and wworth 2-3 and I REALLY thought your 5K offer was generous..

The Only way this goes above 10k is if the Link situation is as good as the number of links 12,000.

Someone went to a lot of work the past few years building this up, but is the traffic there or not ?

I guess DTG could easily settle this with a breakdown of the traffic...
