SnapNames caught me a name only 2 days ago. It was with my only SnapBack (as most of the time I preferred to go with alternatives, except in this special case), one that I bought less than 3 weeks ago, so someone out there must be watching over me.

Looks like I won't need my antiwls.com much longer. :) Victory tastes sweet.

Yes Snapnames are evolving but "maybe" it's a bit late. They backed the wrong horse, that old nag WLS.(ptp)
Now they gotta play major catch-up. How many registrars will come back?
That's too bad. Snapnames would have banked huge on WLS.

A credit? Does that mean refund? Seems to me they should honor all existing snapbacks and remove those from consideration. Auctions should be on new snapbacks only. It always amazes me when these services feel they can change the game mid-stream, and apply those changes to services already contracted previously. Maybe someday Domainers will have an organized voice to protest this stuff.

Well said, stocdoctor. Unfortunately it happens all the time - pool, NW, Enom, etc.

Yup.

The upside is that maybe now Snap will become more effective at ACTUALLY CATCHING the names.

argh, i thought i can still depend on snapnames to catch some cheap drop... now everyone turns into auction mode and it means we might be over paying for drop and have higher risk :(

Now with almost the big player in auction format, it doesnt really matter which one to go to... Enom, NameWinner, Snapnames...

I think i am Pro WLS... when will it come out !!!

I'm sorry if I'm sounding stupid but I've just logged into my "snapnames" account and noticed all my previous backorders have disapeared.......

Anyone else experiencing the same problem? If so, how are they going to rectify the situation???!!! Refunds?

I hope they keep all records of names previously booked otherwise this could be a long long night.

Not a happy chappy

Ps, Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere.

Just place my first snap there in more than a year, yes, a domain that was previously snapped already. Now, let see how they do in a few days. ;)

I think that Snapnames giving up the fight will actually cause WLS senarios to happen sooner than expected especially if this causes increased media attention and it will especially with media outlets like DNJournal pumping up stories of higher prices. Ultimately it will lead people to continue to become registrars simply for the fact that it would be a license to print money. At some point there would have to be restrictions put on registrars which would benefit those already in place.

Overall this will benefit those of us who got into the market early and bought up names. I'm glad that when a name expires I will at least have a chance to go after the name equally with other people. Usually I don't see a domain going for very high unless it has type-in traffic and already represent a source of revenue. I'm not really worried about competition but it makes my job a lot easier to just simply looking at the daily drop list.

Godaddy would have to somehow compensate it's users in some fashion because i've spent several hundred dollars on backorders already many of which haven't yet been successful. Really they are almost the last holdout.

What exactly does snapnames plan to do about people who currently had snaps on names?

By "credit" do you think they mean an actual refund or some kind of credit towards the auction price for an expiring domain?

A credit will be added to your account, so you have X amount of dollars already in your account to be used towards auctions. Sounds flakey to me, maybe I wouldn't have spent that money with them if it were auction format at the time. And users will go bid crazy because some will feel it is free money. I am sure the big boys will have huge balances already with SN.

One good thing I noticed though
"Bid Alias
Your "Bid Alias" is the name displayed to other users when they request information about an ongoing auction. The Bid Alias you choose must be different from your username and must contain no more than 12 characters. Once chosen, your Bid Alias may not be changed."

godaddy would not be interested in an auction type based enviornment, they never catch anything good, we all know that they are the weakest player in the game... the money that they make upfront from people hoping to catch a name using their "backorder services" is much much more then they would ever make if infact they catch anything of interest to XX amount of people.

The auction allows for the lease of more RRP connections.
