I am looking for an appraisal for the domain name Social.com.

I've owned the domain since first registration and just recently launched a new site with the name.

Your opinoin on the value of the name is sincerely appreciated.

Thanks,

About $450-500k with the right development to generate traffic and income.

Obviously Social Networking is the big topic of this last 18months and will be for a few years yet as we are in the infancy of this new era.

Fantastic name.

Awesome name at this time in history. Has to be worth a good amount. I would say I could not put the right price some buyer would pay for this. I think a buyer, if they understand their market and business would pay upper xxx,xxx to x,xxx, xxx for this sort of quality domain. IMO, not a xx,xxx, minimun xxx, xxx.

Depends largely on reseller who buys but...

Reseller price big 5 figs to $1XXk. Not sure how deep it would go past $1XXk from a reseller since ovt/w is low, no ads etc. Youd have to literally brand it as social, it is very generic.

End user is 6 figures for sure.

If you plan to sell do not wait and wait until this social networking 'trend' dies down.

What's the best offer you received so far?

I've had lots of inquiries into the name. Since the name has not been for sale since 2007, I have not engaged with anyone to the point of getting an offer.

Reseller mid to high xx,xxx.

End user could be anything in xxx, xxx.

what's a social? how much do they sell for? is it catchy enough to compete with facebook?
it's a bit like hyping highway.com when information superhighway was a buzzword.

get a social network script and then see how good it is.

Now this is called category killer one :)

I would say it can generate 300K in revenues in 6 years. So why sell it. ;)

I wouldnt sell this name unless I was looking at a high $XXX,XXX offer. As others have said I would try my hand at developing then waiting for FB or Myspace to buy you out

Having a market place for people who aren't yet plugged in to the social media online is a good start for this one.
This domain name screams out "networking" social networking, online networking, meet-up, etc.
Offering some basic info for the noob on what facebook is and how to set up a few basic things like; privacy settings and fan pages, twitter and using lists and live search, the "add this" bookmarklet, etc.
Demos, tutorials, RSS, browser plug-ins, digging, etc.
Sounds almost too simple, but simple is what the noob is looking for. You can add advance stuff to, but gather a target market first.

As we live online and see this tread growing, it is still fairly new to many people.
Get those noobs on board and you will have an audience/base to market to for years to come.

Oh, have ya heard that Google will soon be rolling out social search
Social media is a hot tread yes, but I see it as a stable part of the new digital landscape. It will morph as people find new and creative ways to use it and not likely to disappear.

Great name. I say build a plan and look for investors, hire people to do the heavy lifting. Put 10-20k in and 6 months you could have a nice money maker selling info on social media.
This one is a keeper.

I don't think anyone can actually appraise this.

The sky is the limit for the end user.

And with competition and buyouts of the startups by the big guys, this is a very marketable domain.

I think cursal has the right idea. Develop it into a newbies help guide for social networking. Social networking is just beginning, it's going to become more interactive, and faster. If that were mine, I'd try to develop it first and then think of selling in a few years

If you plan to sell do not wait and wait until this social networking 'trend' dies down.

It's not going to "die down" anytime soon if ever, social networking is only at its beginning.

If I was rich I'll give you a million dollar for this domain. But right now I can give you a hundred bucks for the subdomain anti.social.com :)

Right... sudden fads never go away.

How's life on that AOL dialup? How about your Geocities web site? Made your first million on Beanie Babies yet? Still using Altavista as your search engine, cuz nobody will ever take their spot? Oh, and how about that failure called facebook, that everyone knew could not compete against MySpace?

If that's sarcasm you're very good at it, if not you're a very delusional individual.
