I received a mid-$XXX offer for StarSpotters.com but I'm not sure if I should sell. The domain name is very memorable and would be just perfect for an astronomy related site. On the other hand, "star spotters" doesn't seem to be very widely used with only about 1,700 Google results. Should I sell it, ask for more, or hold on to it?

Recently got a $3,000 offer for this domain... I also realized that "star spotters" could be used in the context of celebrities. Maybe there is a new TV show coming out under that name?

There are now 4,670 results for the term in Google so it looks like usage has almost tripled in two years.

Sell, counter or hold??? :)

astronomy is dead in the water compared to celebrity hunting!

you could have users upload pictures they took themselves of famous people,
web 2.0 themed celebrity site

$3000 is a good offer, ask for 5

There's a site called dotspotters that has people link from their phones, etc to say, hey I'm at Starbucks and Britney is here kind of thing. Be perfect for that but it would be a bear to develop.

Are you in a position to develop it yourself? If so, I love the idea of user uploaded celeb shots.

If you want to sell it, I'd counter the offer saying that you've got plans to, nay, have started to develop it, and it would take a very generous compensatory offer for you to change your business plans.

If there is some reason "star spotters" has bloomed since you last wrote, you may very well have a big business suitor calling. Stick a low $xx,xxx figure out there, say 10-20k, and see what happens. Maybe they'll meet you half way.

Thanks a lot to each of you for the helpful and eyeopening feedback.

DotSpotter is actually owned by CBS; maybe it's them behind the offer.

If I had the time it would be quite tempting to develop StarSpotters. It has a nice ring to it and I know someone who is literally addicted to celebrity news and who would probably enjoy working on it 18 hours a day. :)

Thanks again for the feedback and I'll keep you posted how it works out.
