$2,000.
Very nice market segment. Two words - COLLEGE STUDENTS - who are looking for used books.

Would be 5 fold higher or more if you had the .com.

Thanks!

I think used books goes well beyond the college scene though...from Amazon.com to Uncle Ted's Used Bookstore :cheeky:

I estimate $7500-$10,000, if you are play your cards right.

Pure type-in names are difficult to find, and book sales online are one of the few successful industries over the past 10 years.

You should research the hell out of the used book industry and prepare to market the name.

If I were you I would put together a marketing package consisting of a clean brown folder, with clear, crisp inserts which you could use to describe the increase of website traffic over the past 10 years, how books are purchased online, comparisions of your name to others, etc.... You get the drift. You might also want to include a self-serving writeup and analysis of the domain name. That would be easy. Discuss the type-in value. Explain what Overture searches and google results are. Blah Blah Blah.

Then, send that mailing out to 50 and 500 used bookstores. That will cost you anywhere from 300-500 dollars to do the mass mailing.

You should get a few serious bites if you do your homework and make a clean presentation. A response of 5% would be good.

Good luck.

Cool idea for this nice name, I done the same with one of my domains but I would like to advice you to add a min. price and set an auction and the higher offer is the winner, this is because buyers will not like to send blind offers which might not be appropriate. Most buyers like to see a price range so they can take a decsion whether this price and name suits them or not. So I think you should go for some kind of a paid appraisal and get an appraisal certificate to add a copy of it to your package.
This name can go up beyond any number you have ever thought of but as mentioned before, it's all about marketing
Regards

For what it is worth, I think very little, greatdomains appraised it between $5,000 and $7,000 in 2000. That is back when greatdomains.com was somewhat different. Although I did not order the appraisal I have the certificate.

$1000 (note: don't always expect qualified appraisals here -- some people just post a figure if they feel they have nothing further to add.)

That may be true, but $1000 is still a low appraisal. I am pretty familar with both industries (used books and domains). Thanks for the response.

One additional point. For the appraisals that are in the $250 - $1000 range you are basically stating the the dot com version would be worth anywhere from say $1000-$5000 (I know that this assumption is not always fair). If you ever get a hold of it for that price, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE contact me. :)

I do not know enough to quote a value but today, both usedbooks.com and usedbooks.net are priceless, and that takes NO thought.
type in traffic alone sets the price at the figures mentioned above.
If devoleped, the sky's the limit.
If a student or anyone on planet Earth wants to buy or sell books online, they'll either go to eBay.com or usedbooks.something.
Not all is perfect, however, the future doesn't look good for print media as an industry. We may not even have books 18-20 years from now, at least as we know them today.

Since you sold the mothership, Written.com, this one pales in comparison. I would expect a realistic $2,500 retail.

I believe most of these appraisals are pretty low, but still appreciated.

Usedbooks.com would be worth a fortune...which would make this domain worth at least low x,xxx. Just me two cents. :)
