Yeah but there are a gazillion cellphones.

heh.. some people do use that arguement wrong.

i think it has some merit if were just talking about the long term viability of a TLD that could someday be associated with a hugely popular niche... Mobile... but there is no information to support that just because mobile computing gets big, that .mobi will follow suit.

pfff.. i like the whole .mobi/mobile idea.. but i registerd a lot of mine on landrush when there was no "hype".. it just sounded like a cool concept TLD to me..

if i can sell some for profit now rather than later, then good..

First 6 days of Jan08 stats for valets.mobi - parked since regging it. Not one of my best .mobi - they are in niches I'm still buying.

Domain Totals US$ 1.23 42 3 % 7.14 US$ 0.41 US$ 29.39
Mon, Jan 7th, 2008 US$ 0.00 0 0 - - -
Sun, Jan 6th, 2008 US$ 0.00 10 0 - - -
Sat, Jan 5th, 2008 US$ 0.68 8 1 % 12.50 US$ 0.68 US$ 85.20
Fri, Jan 4th, 2008 US$ 0.46 5 1 % 20.00 US$ 0.46 US$ 92.28
Thu, Jan 3rd, 2008 US$ 0.00 3 0 - - -
Wed, Jan 2nd, 2008 US$ 0.09 13 1 % 7.69 US$ 0.09 US$ 7.02
Tue, Jan 1st, 2008 US$ 0.00 3 0 - - -

So if we are to go off your rationale Greg, that one name being crap (yours) proves that all others must be so too, then can we say that on the evidence we have here, that I must know 32 times more about domains than you, based on monthly revenue of the two names ?

No - of course not, to say either is daft.

mjnels I think when you get down to 5 .mobis you'll be moving over to the cool kid's side. :)

Nothing sadder (should that be funnier) than a guy who thinks he's still got it - do your kids beg you to quit break dancing at weddings

Vision should buy NEUROSIS.MOBI and use for his personal site. :)

People have the right to register shitty, dreadful names in any extension: com, .mobi ,.net .tv, .info....

Sharp eye

Clearly most .mobi domains registered are worthless.
I would even draw a parallel with .biz in that only certain keywords/niches fit the TLD.... imho. Again what do I know.
But it's the buyers who are crazy - not the sellers :)

Kate, which .biz would you like to compare on here, 'cos I don't seem to be able to find any....

Clearly most .mobi domains registered are worthless.

If used properly a .mobi can be very valuable, but the value of .mobis is near a make or break point.

.mobi would be great for regular phones but with the expanding market of smart phones, .mobis might not be needed.

IMO - .mobis are a few years too late (would have been great 5-6 to 1-2 years ago) and the lack of full devolopment really pushed .mobi away from is full potential.

I wonder what percentage of .mobis are actually devoloped (not parked and not redirected)?

Who had an internet ready phone even 2 years ago? Very few - partly down to the cost of access. 5 years ago - noone.

The internet (well, "internet") started appearing on phones back in 2000 with WAP (and HDML) browsers. That lasted for a while until "3G" (actually 2.5G) phones came out, WAP still held its place until real smartphones (Treos, Blackberries, Pocket PC OS, Palm OS etc.) came out that made the "real" (still limited) web available on phones. The provider I had, which was on par with the other major players in the US, had all of their phones "internet ready" by the end of 2000. I was able to puchase books though Amazon.com in the winter of 2000-01 on my cell phone. Unlimited internet access was roughly $5 a month back then, too (on most plans). My bill was about $40 a month.

.mobi would have been perfect for the older WAP / HDML browsers since now most phones can access the internet with few limitations (most limitations are security or Flash related now).
