Think of it this way........rent out of town for a shop is like $400 a month. Rent in the best part of town is $8000 a month. A domain name is the same as a shop location, its cyber premises so to speak.

i understand your point eddie but seeing this type of language in what is supposed to be a forum that helps people really does discourage a lot of new members registering or feelin to frightened to ask for a domain appraisal in case someone jumps down their throat.- im not saying that people would so please dont get me wrong
but surely wouldnt it be better for this type of stuff to be sorted out privatly and if you have to let people know what others are like why not just post little bits of info about them not **** in every 4 words and if people want to know more send them a text file for example or place an attachment of a text file in the post so they can download it and see for themselves.
this way people who dont wish to be subjected to this type of language or behavior wouldnt be.

just my opinion for what its worth

Well, remember that example about the shops? Well what makes the difference in rent? Well, one of the big things is passing traffic. If more people walk past your shop, your more likely to get cusomters and be known (i.e no need to advertise to let people know you are there)

Same works with domains. When people look for something, say, a dvd player. They may type in www.dvdplayer.com to see what they find. .com is the #1 global extention for e-commerce, and therefore has more "passing traffic". It therefore needs to spend less to adverise which pushes up its value further.

Also, a shop might be in the better part of town for the prestigie the area brings the company.....same with the extention. .com is king, and everything else is seen as a second grade extention (exclusions apply).

Hope that helps explain things a lil (not all here right now, so may need to edit later when i recover).
