Juniper, don't feel bad. I am also not a member of the "Inner Group".

How does the saying go?

"I don't want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member."

Groucho Marx?

>> If you didn't buff someone's ego, you'll pay for that by paying him 600% more than anyone else

Board membership has NOTHING to do with ego massaging, and EVERYTHING to do with a solid reputation in this business.

So if they're not on this unnamed "Board", they aren't reputable and should pay 600% more?

Is UltSearch going to be there? Enom? BuyDomains? Sedo? Aflias? Tucows? Hennie Lipman? Those are the people with the solid reputation in the business.

I DID see Pool.com on the list. Please 'splain to me about their "solid reputation" in this busines :)

I offered to come out and give away secrets about the drop, but they weren't interested (they never returned my email).

For the record, I've never been a member of the board, so there's no way I could have been kicked off :)

So CHRIS...

If there were, say, such a gathering in a place that was easy to fly to, had LOTS of young slim women to photograph, lots of beaches, and near a border with a country where Cuban cigars are legal to obtain and smoke.....

Juniper,

We could have our own conference. d:)

We could meet at Phillips in Ocean City, MD.

I am sure HiOsilver would join us.

We could have a great evening of discussion about

"The Future of the Domain Industry"

over a pile of hot steamed crabs and a pitcher of beer.

Since, John Berryhill only lives a few miles from there, I am
sure he would join us.

I bet Michael Mann might even join us if we promise not to pick
on him. :-D

Who needs a gathering? Sounds like my last vacation in St. John (USVI) and Grand Cayman :)

(or Acapulco during Spring break).

PS: it's legal to smoke Cubans. It's just not legal to buy them. I have NO IDEA how this bunch of R&J Churchills and HdM Double Coronas got into my humador, honest, I don't!

You're obviously a bit confused. They are one of the dirtiest.

Will have to agree here....but still would love to hear from them especially after this free INFO fiasco and about the fake trademark issues. If anyone can get them to come to any conference and face the music more power to them.

How about a FREE get-together? Hell, I'll even organize it in San Diego if there is enough interest. We have venues (dance clubs and such) here holding up to 400 people I can get for free, just promise to buy a drink or two. It's sunny most of the time, beaches, bikinis year-round, Sea World, and the sights of Los Angeles are a 2 hour drive north, Mexico 30 minutes south. Wireless connections abound, and I can hope scope out inexpensive hotels.

I am looking at organizing some kind of get together maybe on the east coast in the near future. I had mentioned Atlanta as a possible venue since it has a busy international airport and is somewhat conveniently located. Maybe somehow we could plan two events one on the east coast and the other on the west coast maybe a month apart. Problem with that is Cambler might only come to the one closer to him. :'(

We could have an event called negotiate with BuyDomains night. I would bring a briefcase full of cash handcuff to my wrist and negotiate in person with Michael Mann on some names inside of his inventory. I think his insight into the new Seeq thing they have going would be great to hear.

Richard,

I am going to TRAFFIC. The last "free domain conference" was going to be in June 2003 in Pineto, Italy. I signed up on DNF. Then, after waiting a couple of months, my wife and I bought non-refundable airline tickets to Rome. Now, we ended up having a great time in Italy. However, with no one really sponsoring and organizing it, the conference/meeting did not happen. There was also going to be a meeting in Las Vegas last year, and that one never happened either. It takes work and $ to organize a real conference of any kind.

If you check out the webpage http://www.targetedtraffic.com/register.html , you will see that there is a place where you can click to apply for an invitation.

Crap now I want to go. :disappoin

Italy was too extravagant for me at the time and impossible.
Vegas was bad timing for me. I don't have $5,000.
Maybe I can have a firesale to help generate the funds.

It's easy to get an invitation. The $1250 registration fee guarantees only serious domainers will attend. Representatives of enom, afternic and nsi have already registered. Sponsors who put up big bucks include DOMAINSPONSOR.COM, FABULOUS.COM, FMA.COM, POOL.COM, HITFARM.COM, STOESER.COM, PARKINGDOTS.COM and KANOODLE.COM and MONIKER.COM.

Really? Who? I asked around the office and nobody knew much about it.

Edit: Hey, I'm not trying to be antagonistic here, I'm honestly asking who's going to be there, so I can give them up-to-date info on Club Drop so they have the right answers if anyone asks any questions.

Adam should consider having a similar conference. I remember he tried to have one
right after he took over the forum, and it didn't work out because not too many people knew him.

There are a LOT of newcomers to DNF since the Sedo partnership and these newbies might be interested in learning a bit about the business.

The TRAFFIC conference, in my opinion, is for people already holding some decent weight but not enough to partner with google, ovt, etc. Their price is astronomical and I can’t possibly justifying someone paying $5k for what may or maybe not useful information.

I think $300/head for all Gold and $150/head for all Plat, Exclusive is a fair price and would make the same, if not more, in volume than Rick's conference.

Adam is a well known guy in the business and unlike rick the dick he has a very good reputation. Companies like DomainSponsor, DomainSpa, Sedo, etc would probably show up and present for free to promote their services.

After this traffic fiasco dies down, I think we should have a survey and see how many people are actually interested in showing up. Personally, I’d love to be there just to meet some of the guys I’ve been on the forum with for the past 2 years!

What do you guys think?

Now I could definitely afford that.

Remember the people coming have to cover plane/driving costs as well as hotel expenses and not everyone is exactly well off (yet). The more affordable we can make this for everyone the better likelyhood of it being a success, especially for newbies (which will be important for the success). I like the idea of having people from all viewpoints not just a closely nit faction held together by the sole purpose of money (although not totally bad). I think with enough promotion and support we could have a very good showing and probably even pull in some big names (Snapnames, BuyDomains, ENOM....and even other PPC companies that get a lot less "exposure"). with the help of some of the people here on the forum this could be a success. I think the key is planning far ahead as well as a few individuals taking the initiative to plan. I probably will only attend a conference in the United States (otherwise I might get beheaded lol). Does anyone think that having one on the West Coast (Vegas?) and one on the East Coast (Atlanta?) would sound like a good idea? If not where would be a good location? (St. Louis? Dallas? New York? Canada? j/k).
