I wired the money to Escrow but they never received it - not sure what happened, but I'm waiting on my bank to find it. For the record, I offered to send PayPal on the day of the sale and I've spent over $200k this week on generic .COMs so I didn't back out of a $5k deal.

I just put it down to "one of those things" - neither party is really at fault. I'm quite sure it would have gone smoothly otherwise so I certainly wouldn't have a problem dealing with him - he seems like a good guy.

Just to clarify, dataguy said he needed the money urgently, and when it didn't arrive in time the Escrow transaction was cancelled. Like I said, I just put it down to "one of those things".

Thanks Beachie. I wish it would have worked out.

Solely the name it's self is worth very little , it's just one of those names that difficult to sale.

I would hesitate to pay anything over $700 for it undeveloped.

Developed of course could be okay. Reminds me of the show on MTV Punked. Instead of saying, "you've been Punked" you could video people in embarrassing moments and say "you've been Viewed"

I know the idea is bad but the name is just not real market friendly, At least to me.

To an end user as with any name, (who knows?) the sky is the limit.

Best of luck.;)

I am not sure if its really worth 5k..past tenses are terrible IMO..I understand why beachie is not interested anymore, maybe he realized its not worth that much.. I think 3k is probably closer to a fair reseller price

With 315 Million results in google I think it's well worth $5k
Perfect domain for a video sharing site/network, like veoh.com, huge development potential.

Hey, don't put words in my mouth :) I still love the name, but something went wrong with escrow and it just didn't happen. It used to belong to me a few years ago! I have a great development idea for it and the past tense is perfect - think outside the box... :)

$700 at this time? I bought it from Beachie roughly 2 years ago for more than that.
Its a pretty good name. It has some uses specifically because its past tense. For example, it could be a site about the most viewed videos on the web. OR a statistics related site about "how many and who VIEWED your site". These, and some other dev. ideas wouldnt be possible, or at least as good for view.com. Pretty brandable too imo.

$4-7k reseller. $10-20k end-user.

Not to forget the gigantic 300,000,000 results in Google. Goes to show how commonly this word is used and how easy it would be to remember.

I hate to repeat, but this the PERFECT domain for a video sharing site.
Just look at all these and how popular they are, check alexa:
veoh.com, videohybrid.com, vimeo.com, divx.stage6.com, revver.com, guba.com, Bolt.com, ifilm.com and many many more, all have huge traffic.
This is the web 2.0 era! And think what you could do if you also had a great and easy to remember domain like viewed.com ;)

With all the social networks picking up and large companies creating their own social sites, this name might fetch big bucks if you find the right buyer looking for a similar name.

The development potential is enourmous.

Thank you all for your advice, it pretty much confirms what I suspected. Here's a related 'appraisal' question:

For over 10 years I've been buying domains here and there, and developing them into stand-alone viable web businesses. My thinking was that just like a farmer and his crop, I would 'grow' these domains into valuable assets.

The problem is that today it would seem that these web sites would likey fetch more if they didn't already have a web site associated with them.

For example, a few months ago I had a web site making about $500 a month and I was contacted by someone who wanted the name. He offered me $12,000 for the name without the site. At the time, he seemed irritated that the site had regular visitors that he would have to deal with.

Am I wasting my time by developing these sites?
