Well, Well, Well - what a change in just a few months :) - for those that are interested have a scroll back in time and see how much criticism there was only 3-4 months or so ago from all and sundry, including SENIOR members about 3D Domains (the worthlessness of them - reg money back only in domain assessments (in here) etc, etc)

How the worm has turned.

cheers,
Mike

Some interesting facts/figures showing on 3 D . c o m

-------------------------

Article from here in Aus, 30% of all TV's sold at Harvey Norman are 3DTV's, thats a pretty good percentage considering their release was on 6 months ago

With Christmas less than two months away franchisee Rob Purcell of Harvey Norman Toowoomba expects 3D TVs to be the must-have Christmas item as studios prepare to release a slew of new 3D content.
Since their release in April this year, Mr Purcell now believes that 3D TVs account for more than 30 per cent of all TV sales.
“They are an extremely popular item and it has certainly rejuvenated the TV market,” Mr Purcell said.
However with the price dropping dramatically and major sporting events trialling the new technology, Mr Purcell believes the TVs will fly off the shelves.
“We have already seen a price drop from suppliers to make them more affordable,” he said.
“We are expecting them to be the must-have item this Christmas and believe that it will be our biggest selling item by a long way.”
Throughout the year major sporting events including the World Cup, State of Origin, NRL grand final and AFL grand final have all been broadcast in 3D.
With Foxtel launching Australia’s first dedicated 3D channel today, Mr Purcell believes consumers will make the switch and make the change.
“The picture is that much clearer and more lifelike. It makes you feel that you’re in the screen,” Mr Purcell said.
In the past six months the majority of 3D Blu-ray discs available have been bundled exclusively with the TVs.

Consumer Demand Strong for 3D Movies
The International 3D Society announced today a survey they commissioned concluded virtually 6 of 10 adults (59%) have yet to see a contemporary 3D movie (past three years) -- an untapped and huge opportunity for consumer discovery.

Of those who have seen a 3D movie, three-fourths (74%) feel that today's 3D movies are better than 2D movies, among whom 30% say 3D movies are "incredible."

I finally grabbed a couple that have been lingering on my list for a
while now.

3DLenz.com - I thought this would be a good name for a mag
or review site. Looking at the industry, movies, products etc under
or through a "lenz".

3DFX.mobi - 3D effects, apps, movies etc ... on mobile devices.

It warms the cockles of an old mans heart to see the new found enthusiasm for 3D Domains - I see some old staunch supporters, some senior members who seem to have seen the light and some fresh new blood with entrepreneurial spirit - good stuff. It is the entrepreneur in us that makes us who we are as domainers and it should always be to the fore.

I still have unwavering faith in the future of 3D Consumer Electronics products HOWEVER I am divesting myself of the bulk of my 3D potfolio as a matter of financial necessity (I am certainly keeping some :) ).

So have a look at this site www.Names3D.com (recently revamped) and get what you need now - there is certainly some crap in the list but there are some really good names for those who are not wearing blinkers. Take a quick peek also at the article "why 3D Consumer Electronics will explode" which I threw together in an effort to try to have some of the non believers take a different viewpoint. This I believe will happen soon, as I commented earlier I can already see the change in acceptance levels over the past 6 months or so, more and more domainers are accepting that 3D is not going to go away. It is undeniable that 3DTV has stalled however there are a number of credible reasons for that - in fact I would be very interested to hear the views of others on that particular subject (inclusive of but beyond just lack of available content :) ).

Anyway - get yourself a coffee, sit back and have a look at the site www.Names3D.com

cheers,
Mike

Some good news....

DEG Announces Surge In Blu-ray 3D Releases For 2010 Holiday Season
Posted by admin on November 1st, 2010

LOS ANGELES (November 1, 2010) – Hollywood-based trade association DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, which represents the home entertainment industry, including studios, consumer electronics manufacturers, IT companies, and music labels, announced today an abundance of Blu-ray 3D titles arriving at retail for the holiday selling season, including 10 debuting on Blu-ray 3D Day: November 16, just in time for Black Friday.
To complement the wide range of 3D televisions and Blu-ray 3D players, the DEG announced 36 titles that will be available through the end of the year. There will also be dozens more Blu-ray 3D titles coming in 2011. The releases include titles from AIX Records, DreamWorks Animation, Giant Screen Films, Image Entertainment, IMAX Corporation, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.
The Blu-ray 3D home entertainment experience is aided by the promotion of these titles in cooperation with leading consumer electronics manufacturers. The Blu-ray 3D home entertainment experience is also supported through nationwide promotions by retail outlets including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Fry’s Electronics, HHGregg, Kmart, Radio Shack, Sears, Sixth Avenue Electronics, Target and Walmart, among others.
The surge of Blu-ray 3D titles and 3D broadcast channels along with an estimated 25 upcoming 3D video games represents more than 1,000 hours of 3D broadcast programming over the next 12 months.
3D-capable TVs, combined with Blu-ray 3D players, bring the 3D theatrical experience home, providing consumers with the best way to watch full HD 3D at home. According to the Blu-ray Disc Association, Blu-ray 3D players currently account for nearly 25 percent of sales of all standalone Blu-ray Disc players in the U.S.
“We are excited to see so much industry support for bringing Blu-ray 3D home,” said Ron Sanders, President, Warner Home Video and President, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group. “And now, consumers buying 3D home entertainment systems over Black Friday weekend will have ample 3D programming to accompany them.”

People have recently pointed toward recent sales to justify 3D domain purchases and to point out that those who were skeptical are wrong.

The almost infinite number of domains like this balance that all out and show that the registrars are the ones making the most profit.
